Rebreather Forum 4 was developed as a conference to address safety, physiology, technology, training, and knowledge gaps relevant to rebreather diving. The primary goals were to: 1) consolidate the knowledge base and enhance knowledge transfer, and 2) promote best practices within the community.⁠

Happy Tuesday! Who knows in what wreck you can find these old Navy Helmets? 🪖⁠

This Mark V Diver Helmet and Morse Shallow Water Dive Helmet can be found inside the dive locker of the USS Saratoga in Bikini Atoll. They were placed in the dive locker by our friend Jon Salas and Mike Dudas who used to guide the land based operations back in the day.

The pe*******on is one of deeper and therefore more difficult pe*******ons on the USS Saratoga and absolutely requires polished overhead skills and advanced wreck or full cave certification at a minimum. Keep that in mind when you book your trip as few will want to visit this wreck and go without seeing the helmets in person.⁠

“The year 2024 was an amazing year for me as a diver. The highlight was my trip to Bikini Atoll with the Dirty Dozen Expeditions.⁠
⁠
I signed up for the trip a year in advance through the Liberty Diver's Club, hoping to meet fellow Liberty CCR divers from around the world. As a newcomer to the Pacific Islands, I underestimated the challenge of sorting out the logistics and necessary travel documents. With the help of the Dirty Dozen, especially Gill, I managed to navigate through it all, and the rest of the journey went smoothly.⁠
⁠
Even though I was the only female diver on the trip, signing up solo, I felt welcomed and supported by the other guests on the boat, especially the members of the Liberty Diver's Club.⁠
⁠
I was particularly impressed by the relaxed yet safety-conscious environment created by Aron and Jacob. Their teamwork put smiles on the faces of all the guests. A "SPLASH" check was carried out before every single dive. Divers were reminded frequently of fatigue and complacency, which was inevitable for a long trip like this. As a dive team, we were very conservative with our Gradient Factor and sorb use.⁠

Additionally, the iconic photos they captured of us elevated the experience, which wouldn't be possible in a DIY trip.⁠

I'm already looking forward to my next expedition with Dirty Dozen Expeditions, knowing that they provide top-notch service and I'm sure to make more life-long friends on board.”⁠

Our August 2024 Bikini Atoll expedition has just returned, and what a trip they had! A team of 16 CCR divers, spearheaded by expedition leader Aron Arngrimsson and Jakub Slama from Divesoft, embarked on an epic expedition to discover the nuclear ghost fleet of Bikini Atoll with about 500 hours spent in the water between them.⁠

We may have a reputation for technical-only expeditions, but that doesn't mean we don't cater to recreational divers.

Truk Lagoon is the perfect destination for recreational wreck-heads ready to explore WWII history. Some of the best wrecks in the lagoon are only 40 feet below the surface, allowing for rich coral growth and a plethora of colorful marine life.

One such example is the Shinkoku Maru which sits upright in 128 feet of water. Her masts reach nearly to the surface and she makes for an awesome night dive.

Both the bow and stern guns are intact and heavily encrusted with life
Inside the superstructure of the wreck is the sickbay, complete with an operating table that appears ready for the next patient!

Keep on exploring and you will discover the accommodation spaces with tiled baths, a galley, and lots of fuelling hoses. There are three telegraphs in the remains of the bridge and piles of artifacts lay scattered around the decks.

LIVE FROM BIKINI ATOLL 🇲🇭 - AUGUST 2024 EXPEDITION⁠

Today was spent exploring the USS Apogon, a submarine that joined the group “Mickey Finns.” Working from Formosa, the group managed to sink 41,000 ton worth of Japanese vessels. The image you can see is the target bearing transmitter AKA "Spongebob".⁠ The fantastic photos in this gallery are courtesy of from Divesoft.⁠

We also had yet another fantastic exploration inside and outside of IJN Nagato. The team is in really high spirit and we are reaching all the goals and beyond for this trip. Now we cap off the last 2 days in Bikini before steaming back to Kwajalein and doing our final dives on the SMS Prinz Eugen! 🪖⁠

LIVE FROM BIKINI ATOLL🇲🇭 - USS SARTOGA/USS ANDERSON⁠

Aron writing here from Bikini Atoll after our second day of diving on our Bikini Atoll August 2024 Divesoft expedition. The morning was spent once again with USS Saratoga with our team exploring the entire wreck from the outside and.. inside!⁠

The afternoon dive was a switch to the famous destroyer USS Anderson which was constantly on the front line of battle and served in the Solomons, Tarawa, Midway, Guadalcanal, and the Coral Sea before being blown up by a nuclear bomb in Bikini Atoll.

"One of our favorite dives in Bikini Atoll, the USS Anderson was a destroyer that acted as a screen for aircraft carriers during WWII. She was constantly on the front line of battle and served in the Solomons, Tarawa, Midway, Guadalcanal, and the Coral Sea. The Anderson was alongside the Yorktown and Lexington aircraft carriers when the Japanese sunk them in battle. She was also present when the USS Hornet and USS Wasp went down. In 1943, the Anderson was at Wotje Atoll in the Marshall Islands, when she was hit by a six-inch shell. The captain and five of his officers were killed and 18 other men were wounded." 🔥⁠
