How else can we foster kindness??

1. Model Kind Behavior
Show Kindness in daily Interactions: Let your child see you performing acts of kindness, whether it's helping a neighbor, being polite to a cashier, or comforting a friend.

2. Acknowledge Kindness: When your child acts kindly point their attention to it and let them know you're proud of them

3. Foster Empathy: Discuss Feelings. Talk about emotions regularly, helping your child understand and articulate their own feelings and those of others.

4. Storytelling: Use books and stories to discuss characters’ feelings and motivations, fostering empathy through literature.

5. Teach Conflict Resolution. Demonstrate how to resolve conflicts calmly and respectfully & encourage apologies and forgiveness

6. Engage in Cooperative Activities: Involve your child in activities that require cooperation and teamwork, emphasizing the importance of working together kindly.

7. Practice Gratitude: Encourage your child to keep a gratitude journal, noting things they are thankful for and reflecting on acts of kindness they have experienced or share moments of gratitude before bed or at the dinner table

8. Thank You Notes: Help them write thank you notes to express appreciation to others.

Another connected day with RIE Foundations students in Novato, CA!!
One thing I observe in these courses is the care for one another that unfolds so quickly. Everyday new foods show up on this table to share with one another, coffees are gifted, rides are given, and chocolate is passed around every afternoon.

The one word that comes to mind when I think about the practice of RIE is… SEE.
Many think of RIE as a practice for young children (infants and toddlers), but what I have found is seeing lasts way beyond these early years and still supports me as I interact with my teens AND the adults around me. Even in this picture here we may all see something different… does he need help or does he have this? Our next steps determine how we see him and he will get that message.

Magda Ge**er said, “How we see is how we care.”
