Didn’t you just LOVE the Labor Day Weekend Studio Tour? Truly amazing work. While you are still jazzed from that experience,
SAVE THE DATES for the NEXT big SCAA weekend—the 26th annual Weekend at the Galleries!

Oct 11-13, Silver City Art Association Galleries will hold evening receptions, art exhibition openings, demonstrations, art walks and other great art events. Pick up a WAG brochure at the Silver City Visitor center for a map of participating galleries, and a listing of individual gallery events. A few galleries are still adding extra events, so stay posted for more news closer to the date.

The Silver City Art Association promotes Silver City as an art destination, and supports the work of local Indie artists, Studios, and Galleries. Check out our website at silvercityart.com for the skinny on the local art scene, or to see how YOU can become a member.

Interested in "A Walk Around The Garden" during this year's Gila River Festival? The Gila Valley Library has created a demonstration garden that is a center for educational programs for young people and the general public, helping to foster an understanding of the numerous benefits of community forests, pollinator habitats, and application of conservation principles. This tour will include discussion of native and climate-adapted plants to attract pollinators and other beneficial insects, how homeowners can turn their yards into wildlife habitats, desert gardening techniques, composting, w**d management, water conservation techniques, mulching, the importance of saving seeds from and growing natives instead of cultivars. Our Western skies are the best, and our monsoon skies are the best of the best. There are only a few days left to catch the "Monsoon Skies" exhibition at the Murray Ryan Visitor Center! The exhibition is all "plein air" (work painted outdoors with the subject in front of the painter) and is the work of the Grant County Art Guild plein air group.

While you are at the Visitor Center, be sure to pick up a Red Dot Studio Tour brochure that has a map of the 20 Silver City Art Association studios that will be open to visitors this weekend. You can further "map out" your tour by visiting the Light Art Space where there are examples of work from all the participating studios.

The Grant County Art Guild is a non-profit dedicated to supporting local art and artists. Our gallery is at 316 N Bullard. Hours are 10am-5pm every day. The GCAG Studio, where we hold shows, open studios, classes and other art events, is at 211 N Texas and has an exhibition, the "Creatures of the Gila" opening Aug 30, 5-7pm. The Visitor Center is at 201 N Hudson. The Light Art Space is at 209 W Broadway. For more about the Guild, our artists, gallery, studio and upcoming shows and events, visit gcag.org.

Did you know? Dan Tucker was the First Marshall of Silver City, in 1878?
The Same year as the Territorial Charter and served as a shotgun messenger on the Wells Fargo stagecoach line?

Check out more about our Old West History .com or pop into the Ice Cream Emporium to hear more about him and others!

And, here’s a video of a performance of “Tuck” by Randy Carr.
"Tuck" was a one man play written, directed and performed by Randy Carr. It is about Grant County, New Mexico's Deputy Sheriff Dan Tucker, one of the most effective lawmen of the late 1880's. Tuck tells the story of Grant County Deputy Sheriff Dan Tucker, a real life hero of New Mexico Territorial days who was a contemporary of the Earp brothers, the "Cowboy Gang," Geronimo and Billy the Kid. Dan Tucker's story recalls the gritty reality of the old west as it truly was.
