Is going on a safari on your bucket list? Here are the top things to consider:

➡️ Start planning 12-16 months in advance. Most safari lodges are small and intimate so if you have a very specific one in mind, planning in advance will get you what you want. There are lots of places to “safari” so planning your adventure can also be flexible.

➡️ Be choosey with your dates. I work with my clients around the rainy seasons and weather patterns to pick the perfect time to go.

➡️ Narrow down your region. Would you prefer East Africa, West Africa, or South Africa? Narrowing down the area makes it so much easier to move forward in the process of picking the best country, lodges, etc.

I literally breathe a sigh of relief every time a client makes it to the airport, boards their flight, and is officially on the way.

But what happens if you do miss your flight?

✈First, if you’re headed to the airport and you’re pretty sure you won’t make your flight, contact the airline en route to let them know. They may even be able to start making arrangements for a new flight.

✈When you arrive, make a beeline for the airline’s customer service desk — they’re your best allies for getting booked onto another flight.

✈Get in touch with your travel advisor (Hey hey, that’s me!) so I can re-arrange your airport transfers and call the hotel to let them know you’re arriving later, so you don’t risk getting bumped in an overbooking situation or getting stuck with the worst room.

When travel plans change unexpectedly, it’s good to know that you have support and someone to help smooth things over.

How far in advance should you book a vacation?

Honestly, it depends on the season and the destination in question. But if you ask me, sooner is always better than later.

A recent survey suggested that if you book a domestic vacation up to two months in advance, you could save up to 20% on airfare.

For an international trip, booking at least four months or earlier can help you save about 13%.

If you like more luxurious accommodations, private tour guides, unique experiences, a pass for a swanky airport lounge, or just a few extra days on the beach then it’s time to get started with the plans.

It’s not where you are but who you’re with, and I totally agree, BUT that doesn’t mean that I don’t take where my clients’ vacation stays incredibly seriously!

One of the reasons why I make it a point to visit as many destinations, resorts, and hotels as possible is so I can get a feel for the true experience my clients will have when they go on their honeymoon or go to the Caribbean with their friends.

In the travel industry, we call them site visits. When I’m in a destination, I connect with my hotel partners for exclusive tours and walkthroughs of their accommodations.

This gives me a feel for what the room, the amenities, and the overall experience at that resort or hotel is truly like.

Then I get to put all that first-hand knowledge to use by making recommendations to clients to make sure their vacation is nothing but amazing.

And hey, if I get to go swimming, hang out at the swim up pool, go dancing or sip a Cosmo and call it work, I’m not complaining.

Are you planning to travel internationally soon?

Check your passport NOW to make sure it is valid. Many countries require that you have at least 6 months validity remaining on your passport to enter your destination.

Current US passport processing times are delayed. You should expect an expedited service to take about 3 weeks and regular service will take about 4 months from application until receiving your updated passport back in hand. Processing time does change with more people getting back to work.

My advice is to get started early to avoid disappointment.

If you're looking for the best panoramic views of Paris, Sacre Coeur Basilica should be on your list. Take the metro up to the cobblestone streets of Montmartre then hike all the way to the top of the hill and up the steps of the Basilica for the most incredible views of the city.
