The Brig is definitely the most unique of all the berths on the Adak. This berth is the Fo'c's'le, which is the bow or the front of the boat. It being the very front of the boat, the floors are slanted. The small room has modern & convenient features like a very cozy double bed and private-mini fridge and private sink. And, adding to its historic vibe, the Brig has chains running through it that connect the boat's large captain's wheel, one floor above, to the original (and functioning!) 1920s FairBanks-Morse direct-reversible locomotive engine, one floor below. Sounds crazy, but most people think it’s pretty cool. This is a great spot to come back to and relax after a day of adventures in Sitka. It’s a available for rent hostel-style with shared common areas or as part of the full vessel rental.

‘Cool boat! It doesn’t run, does it?’ That’s what a friend asked when we took the Adak on. The answer is - it does, if you really really want it to! In fact, the Adak was sailed from Sitka to Wrangell, Alaska in April of 2016 so it could be hauled out of the water have some repairs done. Isn’t she a beauty? This adventure was written about in an article published in Smithsonian Magazine. Click on the link to read all about it...

Speaking of novels, did you know that the Adak is featured in a recently published novel by a Sitka-based writer, Brendan Jones (and a previous owner of the Adak). It’s about a woman who moves to a small fishing village in Alaska and learns to make a home of her own on - you guessed it- an old WWII tugboat.

Can we talk about the Captain’s Quarters? That’s the entire upper deck of the boat and arguably the the best room in the house(boat). It’s the perfect spot for a relaxing weekend away, curled up next to the fire with a really good novel. Depending on your budget you can rent just the room or the entire vessel.

Our 7 year-old little fisherman, Caleb, caught some rockfish right off the deck of the Adak. We cooked them up in the fully stocked kitchen/galley, added some panko & spices and lunch was served. Talk about eating local!

Located in a scenic fishing village island in Southeast Alaska, the Adak is a WWII-era tugboat converted into 2000 square feet of cozy living space. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the rooftop deck, the volcano visible in the distance, with otters and sea lions hanging out below, and watching the parade of fishing boats and floatplanes on Sitka Channel. Some say the best way to see a beautiful Sitka sunset is aboard the Adak. Rent a room or the whole boat for a one-of-a-kind Alaskan experience.
