What are your families favorite Christmas Traditions?
As I sit here thinking about our family’s upcoming Christmas tradition, my heart is filled with joy and gratitude. Every Christmas morning, we start our day by opening presents at home. The excitement and anticipation that build up in the weeks leading up to Christmas are finally released as we tear open wrapping paper and discover the treasures that await us. Especially for my four year old.
Once the presents are opened and the living room is a glorious mess of wrapping paper and ribbons, we bundle up and head out to the lighthouse. The scenery along the way is breathtaking. Snow-capped mountains loom in the distance, and if we’re lucky, snowflakes gently fall from the sky, creating a winter wonderland that would make even the grumpiest of Scrooges smile.
Wild Alaska salmon is our go-to dish for Christmas day, and we devour it with delight. The feast is accompanied by sides of roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes, and we toast to the holiday season. The conversation flows easily, and we catch up on each other’s lives, sharing stories and laughter.
We settle in to watch Christmas movies. It’s a tradition that we’ve had for as long as I can remember, and it’s one that I cherish deeply. We watch all the classics, from “A Charlie Brown Christmas” to “It’s a Wonderful Life,” and we sing along to the carols that play in the background.
As the day draws to a close, we take a moment to reflect on the year that’s passed, and to appreciate the love and warmth that we share as a family. It’s been a busy season, full of ups and downs, but in this moment, all that fades away, and all that’s left is the simple joy of being together.
Our family’s Christmas tradition is one that I treasure dearly. Opening presents at home, enjoying a seafood feast of Alaska wild salmon, and spending the day watching Christmas movies and enjoying each other’s company at the lighthouse is the perfect way
