TREETOP ADVENTURE – Sitkan Sharyn Ferrick works her way around one of the aerial paths at the newly opened Sheet’ka Treetop Adventures park at 4775 Halibut Point Road Tuesday. Watching from a bench in background is Erik Marter, of Northwest Adventures and Synergo, who helped set up the park. Shee Atika Inc., which owns the attraction, leases the land near the Sitka Sound Cruise Terminal from the city. The Native corporation hosted Tuesday’s grand opening and lunch. Decades ago, Sitkans had the idea of a trail that you could hike from downtown all the way to Starrigavan. They listed it in this 1980 trail guide as aspirational “someday.” Well, Someday is Today! Join us on July 1st to celebrate a vision decades in the making!

We’ll have a ribbon cutting followed by an optional group hike on Saturday at 9:00 am at the Starrigavan boat launch parking lot. See you there!
