Our acceptance speech for Sitka Business of the Year award 🎙️
We’re humbled and grateful. We have a lot of thanks to give ♥️
Thank you for the recognition Sitka Chamber 🙌
Full steam ahead 💥
“Hello Fellow Sitkans!
On behalf of my partner Koali and myself, I want to thank you for this incredible honor. We wish we could be there in person but we’re currently getting some R&R in beautiful Costa Rica—being tourists ourselves for a change! Even though we’re away, we’re so grateful and humbled by this recognition.
Ten years ago, we set out to build our dream—Cpt. Gary’s Sitka Adventures—and with the right amount of hustle, support, and luck we’ve been able to build a business we’re dang proud of and excited to grow into the future.
Our mission statement has always been simple: To share the beauty of this place we love while creating something meaningful for our community. Our business isn’t just about running tours; it’s about sharing Sitka, telling our history and culture, and connecting people with nature while also providing jobs, strengthening our economy, and ensuring Sitka remains a thriving place for generations to come.
As a born and raised fourth-generation Sitkan, this town is more than just home—it’s part of who I am. Sitka has given me so much, and I feel incredibly fortunate that we’ve been able to build our livelihood here while sharing it with visitors from around the world.
That’s especially important to us because we’re raising our daughter, Genevieve, here. We hope that through our work and dedication, we’re showing her what’s possible—that you don’t have to leave to build a meaningful life, that you can create something special, and that you can truly thrive right here on a small island in Alaska.
We’re grateful to so many people who helped us get here. To our beloved friend Ryan Kauffman, who passed on his boat and his inspiration. To Ken and Debbie Rear, who helped me get my sta
For all the Littles that come on tour with us: You can become a Junior Ranger when we visit Sitka National Historical Park 🥷🌲 How cool is that?! #juniorranger
Whale, hello there 👋 It’s been a minute … or a whole year 🙃
We kind of dropped outta here for awhile 🫣 but we miss sharing so here’s a little recap on us: Our tours last season were amazing (our busiest season to date), our off-island adventures have been grand, and our “baby” daughter is about to turn 6.
Current news: Gary is already out on the water doing his thing—whale-whispering and making people happy—and today might have been his most amazing whale-watching day ever with huge numbers of Humpback Whales congregating “like Humpies (aka Pink Salmon) in a river.”
He’s been making good use of the hydrophone to listen in on the action. And you know what that haunting whale song is saying? HERRING! Well that’s our best educated guess anyway 😜
It’s that special time of year in Southeast Alaska … spring has sprung, the herring are spawning, and the whales are ready to feast … while we feast our eyes (and cameras) on them 🎥
Here’s a video from today of that crazy beautiful, highly-coordinated, graceful feeding frenzy, known as bubble-net feeding 🫧 🐟🐟🐟 🫧 🐋
What a show 🤩
We’ll be sharing much more this year. It’s shaping up to be a really good one 👏

This is from yesterday4/7/2021! 🐋 Make sure to watch to the end💥
Super fun day catching waves in Sitka! This is what I like to do in my off time🤙🏼
I’ll let you in on a not-so-secret secret ... I have a thing for Snapchat ☺️ I’m probably too old for it but I just can’t resist those funny filters and voices. Life’s serious enough, I like to walk on the lighter side. But I promise I won’t talk like that on tour, unless you like Snapchat too in which case we’ll need to make a video together 😉 Probably the one with the bear ears 🐻💖

I encourage you to invest in this. In what gives life and can give life to others. There is nothing more beautiful than the art of creation.
Wait for it ...
