You go, Jessi! 🥳 We’re lucky to have Jessi on our team of awesome mushers in Juneau.

Best of luck in the Kobuk 440 race starting in just one week from today! 🏆

Aimaagvik Kennel - Alaska

Jessi Downey is originally from the village of Noatak. She started dog mushing as a teenager by helping Jen Evans and other local mushers run dogs around the southcentral town of Willow and eventually went on to start her own kennel. She has run the Willow 300, the Goose Bay (Tug) 150, and the Ididn'trod, and ran the Kobuk 440 for the first time last year. She is looking forward to seeing the trails again and revisiting all the communities on the Kobuk 440 route. Her sponsors are Alaska X, her mom, and a lot of friends and family. She would like to thank the Kobuk 440 Racing Association for putting on an amazing race.

📣 EXCITING ANNOUNCEMENT! 🎉

We are thrilled to introduce to you our new Skagway Musher's Camp Manager, Wade Marrs! Stump Jumpin' Kennel - Wade Marrs

"Born and raised Alaskan, Top 5 Iditarod Finisher. Previously worked for 5 years as an Alaska X Musher Guide, excited to return in this new role. While I currently reside in Wisconsin with my wife and two boys, my heart remains in Alaska. I'm ready to share the deep history of dog mushing within the Last Frontier and hope my knowledge in raising, training, and racing sled dogs will enhance the experience for excursion guests from around the globe. Outside of work, I am eagerly anticipating the opportunity to spend quality time with my family in beautiful Southeast Alaska. As Skagway Dog Camp Manager, it's my goal to make the 2024 summer season a success for the dogs, guides, and all who embark on the mushing experience with Alaska X."

Thank you, Wade! We are looking forward to a fun and successful 2024 season ahead. 🐕🏔🛷

FYI: we still have musher/handler positions available at our camps in Skagway & Juneau for those interested! Apply here: https://www.alaskax.com/Home/Career

🏆 Exciting news! Alaska X is honored to have received the prestigious Stan Stephens Stewardship Award at the annual ATIA convention last week! 🌟

We’re deeply proud of this recognition, which highlights our dedication to the tourism industry and our commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Southeast Alaska.

Moreover, we are excited to share our monumental step towards sustainability: in 2024, we will transition from a diesel generator to a hydroelectric power system, producing clean energy for our Adventure Camp!

Here’s to many more years of providing eco-conscious experiences to honor the Alaskan nature and heritage! 👏🌎

We'd like to give a HUGE shoutout to our Glacier Point Boat Crew 👏👏👏

Yesterday, they rescued a kayaker who lost his kayak while on the beach with his dog. He started a signal fire, and the captains retrieved the kayak to bring to him so he could return to safety.

The photos display the guy (small figure on the beach to the left of the boat) and our boat assisting him.

THANK YOU, TEAM, FOR YOUR HARD WORK AND KINDNESS 🌟

We are thrilled to introduce our newest assistant manager, Theresa O’Gorman! ☀️ She became a musher with our company last year and quickly grew a passion for the sport. Here are some words from her:

“Hi, I’m Theresa! I started mushing last year for Alaska X to escape the stresses of normal work life. I fell in love with the sport so I took a job as a handler in Northern California for the winter. Through that, I've had the experience of mushing a small team while traveling around the Northern US and Canada for races. While I haven't raced myself, I'm hoping to start building a small team of my own, starting with my semi-retired sled dog that I adopted last summer, Pencil. Running dogs is a beautiful way for me to connect with nature and focus on what is right in front of me. The fact that dogs love unconditionally is a huge perk of the job! When not running dogs, I'm usually reading about mushing or following my favorite mushers on social media trying to absorb as much knowledge as I can. I am very excited to be back in Alaska this summer and can't wait to see what's next!”

Come experience a story like Theresa’s for yourself! 🐕

As the 51st Iditarod kicks off, we wanted to introduce one of our rockstar mushers, Robert Redington, whose grandfather founded the Iditarod in 1973! 🏆

“Hi, I’m Robert Redington. I live in Willow AK, but grew up in Knik where my family still lives with their sled dogs. My grandfather, Joe Redington Sr., is known as the father of the Iditarod, starting the first race in 1973. My family is still participating in racing 51 races later. All dogs I have bred and raised as puppies have grown up with me in Juneau being loved on by our wonderful guests of Alaska X. Socializing our pups is one of the first steps in training our sled dogs, so thanks to all puppy lovers that visit our camp during the summer! Our adult dogs equally enjoy the attention and they’d love to see everyone visit either our Juneau or Skagway location in 2023!”

Come work with Robert this summer! 🐕

And now we introduce to you our amazing Juneau Musher’s Camp Manager, Jae March! ⚡️ She has been with our company over 10 years now…

“Hello! My name is Jae and I'm the Juneau Musher's Camp manager. I’ve been mushing sled dogs since I was 12 years old back home in Michigan and since 2009 in Alaska. With mushing being Alaska’s state sport, it is the place to be part of the mushing community and witness the most competitive race in the world, the Iditarod. I’m not much of a racer, although I do have a few short races under my belt and a humanitarian award, I support my boyfriend Robert and our dogs in races during the winter seasons. For summers we have both worked with Alaska X long term sharing our kennel of superstar athletes with guests from all over the world. Other things I enjoy are training dogs for obedience, fur sewing, cooking tv shows, and live music. I’ve learned so much and would say I’m lucky to spend so much time with our fur family thanks to the work I do. If you love dogs I suggest you consider checking out our operation in Skagway and Juneau, AK for summer work or just to visit us in action on tour. It certainly has fulfilled my life with wet kisses and dog fur which makes me happy!”

Come work with Jae in Juneau! 🐕

We are SO excited to introduce our wonderful Skagway Musher’s Camp manager, Dani Nedler ⭐️ Here are some words from her:

“Hello! My name is Dani, I am the Skagway Sled Dog Camp Manager. I fell head over boots for mushing in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula. I live in Alaska now, and I have spent over a decade working with some of the world's most incredible k9 athletes and some equally incredible mushers. I have had the privilege of leading youth mushing trips in the backcountry and sharing my passion for sled dogs with folks from all over the world. Although I don’t have much interest in racing myself, I enjoy being part of the “behind the scenes” training it takes to get dog teams to the starting lines. Behind every racer is a network of support, including handlers, volunteers, veterinarians, and race fans like you! Outside of mushing, I spend my free time fishing, gardening, and visiting with family & friends. I enjoy hiking and exploring southeast Alaska with my husband Anton, and our pack of retired sled dogs.

I am looking forward to another summer season with Alaska X and sharing the joys of mushing with both adventure seekers and dog lovers alike!”

We still have some musher positions available for this summer—come work with Dani! Reach out to [email protected] for more information!
