Arnold Andersen had a vision.

Beginning in the early 1980s, Arnold began restoration work on the decrepit steamboat landing that had been abandoned for almost 40 years.

The building had good bones of old-growth Douglas fir, a spectacular view down the river, and an interesting history; however, before Arnie started working, it was nothing more than a 7,000-square-foot box with a sagging roof sitting on deteriorating pilings.

Over the next three decades, Arnold painstakingly restored the building that was once a busy wharf, Silverman’s Emporium, and, at one point, a dance hall!

Now, we’re proud to call it home.

We invite you to be a part of the history of Viewpoint Landing!

Today, we celebrate the people who first called this land home, the Wahkiakum tribe, part of the Chinook Indian Nation. Their land is a source of our strength and beauty and is our greatest responsibility.

We will continue to honor their place and contributions to the shared story of Skamokawa, Washington, and America.
