Thank you to everyone who "likes" my BT RV Innovations page. I just reached 300 LIKES!!!! I haven't posted anything for awhile. Running New Horizons RV Corp. has become very demanding. I'm considering discontinuing the Sewer Hose business. I still have some inventory to use up so if you've been considering ordering a Pivot-EZ Sewer Hose Compartment it might be a good time place an order while I still have material in stock to build them. Thank you to all who support me. I appreciate you!!!!

I have had a couple of requests for Pivot-EZ "Tube Extensions". This would be an extension that screws on to the threaded coupler and extends the 5" tube. (having another male threaded coupler for the cap to screw on to)

The benefit would be to store a longer hose, or a Rhino-FLEX hose and perhaps even a hose extension. I would probably offer these in 1' increments.

It looks as if a 24" extension would be in the $50 range. give or take. Before ordering in the necessary parts, I'm just seeing if there would be an interest.

Thanks
Bryan

How To Find A Remote (And Free!) Boondocking Location Using Google Maps

This is a great article by Janessa Miller

If you can run your RV on solar power or batteries—or you’re just willing to rough it for a few days in the backwoods—there’s no reason not to spend your precious camping time in the middle of nature.

Even the best campgrounds are usually full of other people and, naturally, many charge a pretty penny for their services. But is it really necessary to pay for cable and WiFi when the entire reason you went camping was to disconnect and get into nature?

If these thoughts have ever crossed your mind it may be time to try boondocking.

ARE YOU DRINKING CONTAMINATED CAMPGROUND WATER?
I recently came across this article on the "Do It Yourself RV" newsletter and found it interesting and informative.

You wouldn’t take a sip out of your RV sewer hose, but connecting to some campground water supply lines could be just as disgusting and dangerous to your health.

Recent news headlines show that contaminated campground water is an ongoing problem around North America. Unfortunately you can’t smell it or taste one of the most frequent contaminants, E-coli bacteria. Campers lacking RV water filtration systems are playing Russian Roulette each time they connect to a water supply.

RV TIPS & TRICKS:

With travel season well underway, I thought it might be an opportune time for all of us to remember this overnight parking reminder.

WALMART OVERNIGHT PARKING ETIQUETTE
Some of the most respected RV consumer clubs have joined together to support your right to park on private businesses’ parking lots overnight under the following code of conduct. The code pertains to establishments that permit “dry camping” on their lots. Dry camping means camping without the use of external hookups for electricity, water supply or waste disposal.

Love our Pivot EZ (Tom C)

Our last 3 Excel 5th wheels have had this option. We have been full time RVing for almost 12 years and we love it. No stinky, slinky sewer hoses in the basement! Also makes for great conversations in RV parks. Nice. Thanks. rockin'

Makes the RV Life a Little Easier (Jim T)
We have had our Pivot-EZ for four full seasons now and it makes a nasty job a little easier. The hose is always ready for use. Just take off the end cap and stretch it out to the dump. Since the hose stores in the PVC tube any nasty stuff that may be remaining stays outside the rv.

RV Tips & Tricks -
10 THINGS TO LEAVE BEHIND...
One of my favorite sources for information is the KOA website. I enjoy reading and sharing things I've learned along the way. The following article was written by Brent Peterson... Enjoy!

10 THINGS TO LEAVE BEHIND...

There are certain things that absolutely “must” come along on any RV trip. The spouse and kids, ingredients for S’mores, and baby’s kiddie movie du jour (this is, of course, non-negotiable). And that’s just a start, to be sure. However, equal reflection must also be given to what not to bring, namely those items that only contribute by taking up space, adding unnecessary weight, and, well, just lack any real compelling reason to lug them around the countryside. The following is a list of some of the most common onboard RV albatrosses that travelers should cut loose from their packing list. To read these 10 tips, click on the link below...

Class A Motorhome vs Fifth Wheel Consideration

I found this great article and thought I would share it with you. It's from "Your RV Lifestyle"

Class A Motorhome versus Fifth Wheel Considerations:

Class A motorhomes usually offer more convenience and comfort going down the road – large captain’s chairs look out over great views through an expansive front windshield. You have easy access to kitchen, living and bathroom facilities while going down the road or for quick roadside stops.

Class A motorhomes usually mean you need to tow a car to do errands and sightsee – so now you have two engines/transmissions to maintain. With a fifth wheel and truck, you may avoid some vehicle maintenance expenses. And then there is the subject of gas mileage. Yes, the motorhome will use a lot of fuel. But so will a big truck. Compare potential MPG for the long trips to take the RV from point A to point B.

RV TRICKS & SERVICE TIPS
THE COST OF FULL TIME RV'ing

One of the most common questions asked by people looking to full-time RV is “how much does it take?”. The simple answer is “whatever you have” and honestly, that’s quite accurate. There are people who full-time on $1K/mo and those who full-time on $5K/mo and then there are those who work along the way, either volunteering at campgrounds or picking up workamping jobs to close the gap.

If you live off your investments you have to be flexible in how you spend your money and the beauty of full-timing is that you can be exactly that. The key is to manage your variable costs to whatever you have available, and as long as you’re willing to do that, the sky’s the limit. The biggest portion of your variable budget is camping fees, gas, groceries and miscellaneous buys and managing those costs gives you the ability to stay flexible on the road. My wife and I made the decision to hit the road as full time RVers with little more preparation than a few years worth of subscriptions to Trailer Life magazine.
We sold the house, the car, and a lot of junk. Then, we packed the rest into a small motorhome and thought we were ready.
Well, we made some mistakes along the way. Hopefully the following tips will help you avoid some of the pitfalls that we fell victim to during our first year of fulltime RVing — some of which can break the bank!

RV TIPS & TRICKS

HOW TO EXTEND YOUR BATTERY LIFE

Your RV lead-Acid battery is a consumable item. No matter how well you care for it, if you use it as intended, sooner or later it will need to be replaced. The difference between replacing it sooner or later is understanding the charge cycle.
Lets start with an understanding that a battery doesn’t make electricity it stores it. When the electricity is used the battery must be recharged. A battery “cycle” is one discharge and recharge.
Battery life is directly related to how deep the battery is cycled each time. A deep cycle is considered to be discharging the battery from 100% to 20%, and then charging back up to 100%. However, a battery that is never discharged below 50% each cycle will last about twice as long as one that was deep cycled each time. Conversely, discharging the battery to 0% or 10.5 volts will greatly decrease the lifespan of the battery.
The accompanying chart lists voltages as related to percent of discharge when the battery is under light load. The chart indicates 50% is the lowest a battery should be discharged for battery longevity however a few experts say 40% is okay.

Manage Your Electricity!

RV Battery Voltage Monitor Helps Extend RV Battery Life

A lot of modern RVs are equipped with an RV battery voltage monitor. However, most older and many new RVs are not.
If your RV is one that doesn’t have an RV battery voltage monitor, you can add a simple volt meter that plugs into a 12v power socket for less that $10. These little volt meters don’t have all the bells and whistle features of the fancy installed monitors but, frankly, voltage tells you pretty much what you need to know about your batteries.
When plugged into power your RV’s converter works to keep your batteries charged. During charging you should expect so see around 14.3 volts. Once the batteries are charged the converter will reduce the voltage to around 13 volts.
When relying on your batteries for power it is important not to let the voltage drop below 12 volts.

Monitoring your RV battery’s state of charge is an important part of RV battery care & use maintenance. if you want to extend your RV battery life as long as possible, it is important to keep them fully charged whenever possible and recharge them as soon as possible when they have been discharged.

HOW TO CHECK YOUR RV TIRES AGE...

Many RVers think of the tires on our RVs the same way we think about the tires on our vehicles. Most of us give our tires a quick once over. Checking the tread wear, inflating them to proper PSI and inspecting them for defects. If these things check out, we’re good to go right?

But one often overlooked check is the tires age. An RVs tire may look perfectly fine with lots of tread left but if older has the potential to be rotted out from the inside, as well as sun checked on the sidewalls.

In that condition, a blowout tends to be more catastrophic usually causing damage to the RV wheel well area as the main tread area peels away from the tire body and flaps around violently until the rig can be safely pulled over. If plumbing or electrical wiring is nearby the damage can get very expensive and leave you waiting for repairs when you should be enjoying the trip.
To determine your tires AGE, click below...

I'm Jessica. Bryan (BT) is my dad. Yesterday we accomplished a goal he had set awhile back - and I'm a little lost for words as far as describing the feeling we got when 3 generations climbed Pikes Peak - my dad (BT) turns 60 this month, my son Chayston just turned 8, and then myself. We weren't totally prepared - we would definitely do some things differently if we could - but the bottom line is that we set out on an adventure up Crags Trail (a Class 2 moderate hike) and made it to the summit of Pikes Peak yesterday! So proud of my dad for setting this goal and accomplishing it - even when it was a complete and total struggle at times (to say the least), and I cannot even begin to describe how proud I am of Chayston - that kid was amazing!
