Smith County is named in honor of Major Nelson Smith who camped near Center Township on his way to join the Union Forces in the Civil War. He was later killed at the Battle of the "Little Blue" in Missouri on October 23, 1864. Since then, Smith County has grown to become and remains a wonderful place to live, visit, and experience. Our goal as a CVB Committee is to help you explore what Smith Coun

ty has to offer.... From the vast prairie to the historical landmarks, from the community gatherings and parades to the quiet parks and relaxation..... Let us show you why Smith County is at the CENTER of it all!
