Well, you may have noticed the change in our name again. After I lost Walnut Creek Lodge, I have really been undecided as to what our name should be. When I change the name, I am stuck with it for 3 months. Hopefully this name, Walnut Creek Country Cottage,
will stick! Maybe I should just call it The Farmhouse since that is what it is. I've been considering going Airbnb for the remainder of the year following hunting season.
We have seen many deer but we have not seen any that I would consider a trophy buck. Hoping this year one of our lucky hunters can take home a deer that finds its way on a trophy wall.
Almost every year we hit a deer with one of our vehicles. There is still time for that. In the meantime, our van will spend some time in the body shop not to repair deer damage, but to repair c**n damage. Yes, c**n! Jim got one last week on our way home from a football game. He said vehicles have changed for sure. After hitting the c**n, we stopped to see how much damage he did. The front bumper was dragging and with the pocketknife that Jim never leaves home without, he was able to cut off some of the bumper. Not so many years ago when vehicles were not made of plastic that would not have been necessary.
We've made some improvements lately on the interior of the house. I wouldn't call our use of the house a money maker, but we enjoy having our hunters, who have become lifelong friends. Every year, I try to do something to the house that will make it more comfortable and enjoyable for our hunters. This year I took out all of the ugly kitchen carpet and replaced it with the wood look flooring, we removed the Livingroom carpet from the 60's and I replaced the coffee pot with a Bun that brews coffee faster. Our Country Cottage is not fancy! Its a clean farmhouse and I believe everyone will spend a comfortable, enjoyable time in Smith County.
