Beautiful weekend for a kayak to Assateague!
This group of friends rented kayaks, packed them up, and headed for Assateague Island to camp.

This morning at about 8:30 AM, we witnessed one of our local River Otters with his breakfast!
We are honored to get visits from all sorts of species to the Marina and are humbled to harbor (pun intended) a space they feel comfortable in.

We get alot of questions about our and what that means compared to what you are typically served if you order "scallops" at a resturant (a Sea Scallop adductor muscle). Both are super cool bivalves, take a look!

Community education is key!

What an amazing time we had hosting the Maryland Coastal Bays Program, the Department of Natural Resources, and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science. We hope everyone learned a little bit about this optically sophisticated, jet propulsioned , beautifully colored bivalve we call the Bay Scallop.

Registration is now open for the MD Coastal Bays Program's final adult learning series program, Explore the Estuary "Through the Eyes of the Bay Scallop".
Please join us for an afternoon of learning about the Atlantic bay scallop on Friday, December 9 from 2-4 pm.
These filter-feeding creatures were once found throughout the Coastal Bays, but due to a series of natural events and their volatile nature, their current population in our watershed is virtually extinct. The program will take place at Baywater Seafood in Snow Hill, home to the Coastal Bays’ only bay scallop aquaculture leasing. The afternoon will kick off with a conversation on the bay scallop and a deep dive into the history of scallops in our Coastal Bays from Department of Natural Resources Shellfish Biologist, Mitch Tarnowski. Participants will then have the opportunity to learn bay scallop aquaculture from Baywater Seafood owners Matt Holloway and Lee Beauchamp.
