Hooked On Montana was founded in 2017 by Clay and Kayla Anderson. As native Montanans, we felt compelled to create a company that combined our love for this great state with our greatest passion, fishing.
Fishing runs through Clay’s blood. This passion was passed down from Clay’s father as they spent many years and made many memories fishing the pristine waters of Western Montana. Clay has managed to turn this passion into a career and lifestyle. He and his wife often joke by saying “When I’m not fishing, I am fishing.” Whether fishing for work or pleasure, Clay spends most of his time on the water. All seasons and all species, if it lives in the water and bites, he is out there to fish for them. It has been exciting to watch this story unfold.
After working as a creel surveyor on Flathead Lake, Clay was asked to serve as Pro Staff Fisherman on “Montana My Back Yard” an ICTV outdoor show dedicated to Montana adventures. This opportunity led him to start guiding on Flathead Lake, which he has done for the past seven years both as an open water guide and ice fishing trips. Many of his trips focused on trolling for monster Lake Trout in Flathead Lake and genuinely providing his clients with a once in a lifetime fishing experience. He has also enjoyed guiding clients on the smaller local lakes, jigging for whitefish, fishing for warm water perch, bass, and pike, and in the spring and summer months trolling Bitterroot Lake for rainbows and salmon. Clay has been a guest on Tom Gruenwald Outdoors on The Sportsman Channel.
Clay’s true passion comes from teaching others how to fish and seeing families make lifelong memories. One way he has pursued this is by becoming a Hooked On Fishing Instructor through the Fish, Wildlife, and Parks program (Hooked on Fishing Not on Drugs). This allows him to reach over 23 schools around the Flathead Valley and almost 1000 students each year. Clay provides both classroom learning experiences and fishing field trips enabling the students to experience both open water and ice fishing.
