Mid winter bluegill can be a great bite to get on during any "warm" front. One of the biggest keys to putting a limit of bluegill on the ice is making sure your jig and plastic profile is hanging horizontal, giving fish a large profile when approaching from underneath. Even when using 1/64oz Tungsten jigs and 1/2" plastics, you can present a large profile by tying the knot so the jig sits horizontal and by using plastics that have arms, legs, tails sticking out in many directions.

Warm fronts during the ice season almost always trigger a feeding frenzy. This school of crappie was suspended 3-5ft off the bottom in 20ft of water. These crappie couldn't resist a 1/16oz. Lipless crankbait from Eurotackle jigging just above the school. Rod:32" ACC Crappie Stix ice rod, Reel Piscifun carbon icx , Line: 3lb mono. Look for soft lake bottom (i.e. mud, silt, or muck) crappie will be suspended over these areas feeding on insect larva in the lake bottom and baitfish as the swim by.

Summertime patterns are is full swing.Crappie are schooled up on deep (12-20ft) w**d edges and among the ways to catch them, a slip bobber and live minnow great tactic this time of year.

Temps are in the 90s, but there are still plenty of crappie on beds this time of year in Wisconsin. My favorite way to catch them is a simple pencil bobber and hair jig setup.
