Sonoita Wine Country

The Spanish Missionaries from the fifteenth century started planting grapes in this area as they established missions along the Rio Sonora and Santa Cruz Rivers. Today, Tumacacori and San Xavier Missions remain as the conquistadores came over to New Spain on orders of the Queen to spread the Word of God and in search of the 7 Cities of Gold (Cibola).

They never found those cities of gold, of course, but they did find a region rich in resources, dramatic mountains and cliffs, plenty of water and wide flowing rivers. Today, Grape Growers have re-established the region as an official AVA landmark growing area (American Viticultural Association). Come and learn the experience of this boutique industry which has blossomed with some award winning and nationally acclaimed vintages unique to this high desert terroir.

ArizonaSunshineTours.com with Sonoita Wine Tours is the oldest operator in the area and can guide you with knowledgable and experienced driver’s on a classic “Spanish Colonial Missions” or “Sonoita Wine Tasting” Tour accross the region. Half day and Full day trips are available. Give them a call at 520.803.6713 to arrange your private tour today!
