Pictures from our July 20, 2022 day trip to Chicago for the 1st Lady river cruise. We arrived at the riverwalk with a little time to spare, so most grabbed a beverage and a little bit to eat before boarding the cruise. It was another hot summer day, but we have experienced this all summer this year. It was a 90-minuted cruise down the river narrated by a representative from the Chicago Architectural Foundation. After the cruise we boarded the bus and headed to Manny’s Dei for dinner. As you can see, Guy Fieri had visited Manny’s and highlighted it on his Food Network show. There was way too much to choose from! An added bonus……Manny’s is located across the street from Binny’s!

We virtually had a full bus going to Brookfield Zoo in Chicago on Tuesday, June 21. It was the first day of summer with the temperatures predicted to be 99 degrees at the height of the afternoon – the hottest day of the year. We had planned to stay the zoo for 4 hours, but we cut off one hour to avoid the extreme heat of the day. No one was upset about cutting it short. There was a bit of a breeze and the temps were not unbearable until a half hour before we were scheduled to leave. We only had 3 p3ople cancel because of the heat. The zoo is amazing and huge! The animals were not very active because of the heat, but they were outside.

Before our departure for home, we went to Jolly Inn for an afternoon meal. We were originally schedule for a meal at Red Apple Restaurant, but they are now only open on weekends. We fund Jolly Inn a great substitute. The food was great and the service was excellent. They evan had frozen Pierogi to buy and take home.

Many thanks for the great pics from Denise and Linda that I did not get. The zoo is now so much larger that it could not all be seen in the period of time we spent.

WE ONLY NEED 5 MORE PEOPLE FOR THIS TRIP TO GO! YOU ARE MISSING OUT ON A FANTASTIC TRIP IF YOU DON'T GO. WE ALREADY HAVE 13 PEOPLE GOING AGAIN WHO WENT ON A PREVIOUS DATE!

Michigan East Coast with
Thunder Bay Resort
September 11 – 14, 2022

Day 1: We travel to Bay City’s favorite restaurant authentic restaurant serving all homemade Polish favorites on their American and Polish buffet at Krzysiak’s House. Continuing north, we travel to the lakeside town of East Tawas where we will visit the Tawas Point Lighthouse built in 1876. Back in East Tawas we check into Tawas Bay Beach Resort located on the sandy shores of Tawas Bay. “Fin in the Sun” on a private beach wading or swimming in Tawas Bay or take a walk on the adjacent Tawas State Dock, which extends a quarter mile out into the bay. Or enjoy a stroll down Newman Street with its quaint shops and sidewalk cafes. When we stayed here a couple of years ago, we had a hard time getting the people onto the bus because they were enjoying the relaxation and the atmosphere so much. We will enjoy dinner at Northwood’s Steak House, where the atmosphere is “up North” and creates an intimate ambiance with a warm and cozy feeling.

Day 2: Enjoy a hot breakfast at the hotel before departing along the shoreline to visit the Sturgeon Point Lighthouse which was completed in 1870 and is now regarded as a historic example of a Cape Cod style Great Lakes Lighthouse. Next we make our way to Alpena, MI, crossing into the 45th parallel,, putting you halfway between the equator and the North Pole. Arriving in the quaint downtown area, you have time on your own. Additional time is allowed for visiting the ice cream parlor, try a little wine tastings, or visit one of the galleries, shops, and boutiques. Our next stop is the Besser Museum for Northeast Museum, the only accredited museum in the region with changing exhibit and galleries. Our final destination is Thunder Bay where we will stay for the next 2 nights. Enjoy relaxing on the ground of the resort overlooking the grounds, play a game of horseshoes with our friends, or time in the hot tub. This evening we enjoy a plated dinner in the clubhouse, finishing your evening with under the stars and around a bonfire complete with S’mores.

Day 3: This morning, enjoy a full hot breakfast at the Resort Clubhouse Grill before departing back to Alpena and the Great Lake Maritime Heritage Center, this 20,000 sq. ft. center was built by the NOAA administration to compliment the Thunder Bay National Underwater Ship Wreck Preserve. Lake Huron’s unpredictable weather, its foggy banks, and sudden gales couples with the rocky shoals earned Thunder Bay the unfortunate name of “Shipwreck Alley”. During the 200 year history, score of vessels ended their careers on the lake floor of Alpena, Michigan. After touring the Maritime Heritage Center, we board the “Lady Michigan” to explore the actual shipwrecks located in the Thunder Bay Sanctuary. As we cruise the shoreline, the “glass bottom” will be provided upon returning and space reserved inside the maritime facility for lunch. This afternoon, we will visit one of the oldest surviving lighthouses on the Great Lakes. We pick up our guide that will tell us more about the Old Presque Isle Lighthouse which was built in 1840. Then it’s on to the New Presque Isle Lighthouse built in 1871. We arrive back at Thunder Bay Resort to relax a little before our evening event. Be prepared for a four-hour slice of Northern Michigan heaven. Enjoy a horse-drawn carriage ride through the woods, across Thunder Bay, and into the Elk Preserve. You will see majestic Rocky Mountain Elk and trophy whitetails. Then it’s on to the Elk Antler Log Cabin for a gourmet five-course dinner prepared before you on antique wood cook stoves. You will also enjoy samples of six locally produced wines from the “Sunrise Side”.

Day 4: After a full breakfast at he the Clubhouse Grill we depart toward home traveling Oscoda County, Michigan’s largest Amish and Mennonite country. Our first stop will be at The Pioneer General Store, known by the locals as “The Amish Mall”. Walking into the store is literally like stepping into another century, to a kinder, gentler America. Pick up a sample of the renowned Amish baked goods and stop at he the Bulk Food Store. As we continue our tour, we will stop for lunch at the Quality Inn Forward Conference Center . which is home to Lumber Jack Food & Spirits. Enjoy a little time to shop the gift shop before lunch on our own, enjoying specialties such as White wine Pucker Pickles, Buckeye Onion Soup. And Gang-sawed BBQ ribs. We will make a quick stop at Williams Cheese Company – Factory Outlet for good old-fashion Pimconning Cheese. You’ll be delighted when you try Grandma’s Chunky Cheese Bread, or when you experience any of their original home-made cheese spreads. , their nationally-acclaimed Double-Bleu Cheese Dressing, or Cheddar & Green Olive cheese. Then it’s time to head home after a great experience on the Sunrise Side of Michigan.

On Wednesday, April 27, we had a fully packed bus going to Gun Lake Casino for our first trip of the year. If you haven't been to Gun Lake for a while, you'd never recognize it. As one of our passengers said, it is probably 3 times as large as when they opened. I am so out of practice doing trips, it never occurred to me until we were on the way home that I never thought about taking pictures. Everyone talked about how nice it was to get out and about and among our old traveling friends. It was a very nice day!

A Chicago Cubs representative contacted me regarding bringing groups for Cubs games. I’ve had many of you folks requesting going to games again. I’ve come up with a solution.

I can schedule games, but not secure the seats. She gave me the best options for afternoon games in the Terrace Reserved Section, which are under cover and shielded from the sun. Those potential games are:

June 16 vs Padres
July 26 vs Pirates
Aug. 23 vs Cardinals

Now…………….the catch is………..I have to pay for the tickets immediately when I book the seats. The cost of 150 tickets is cost prohibitive at once. So if I put the games out there, I will not secure the tickets until I have received enough money to cover the cost of 50 tickets per game. That means you must get your money in immediately or the seats will be assigned to other groups.

So many people have continued to ask for Cubs games and it’s the only way I will schedule them.

I have the pricing and dates together for 3 Chicago Cubs games. As I stated over the weekend, I have not secured the seats until I receive money to cover the cost of the tickets. I have been assured by the Cubs rep that these games and the seating are fully available at this time. They are all afternoon games in the Terrace Reserved Section, which are under cover out of the sun. The trips must be paid in full at the time of booking. We will also be able to drop passengers of right at Wrighley Field. The prices include game ticket, motor coach transportation, and driver tip. Alcohol is not allowed on the bus. Anyone not adhering to this will be removed from the bus in whatever manner is needed.

June 16 vs Padres: $110.00 per person
$114.00 per son if paid by debit/credit card

July 26 vs Pirates: $131.00 per person
$136.00 per person if paid by debit/credit card

Aug. 23 vs Cardinals: $94.00 per person
$98.00 per person if paid by debit/credit card

In a beauty parlor in northwestern Louisiana, life is anything but boring. Steel Magnolias follows six women over the course of three years as they face life’s challenges together and find comfort in one another. Embracing both laughter and tears, this story celebrates the power of female friendship. The play received one Drama Desk Award nomination, and the popular film adaptation was nominated for an Academy Award and two Golden Globes. We will indulge in a lovely lunch in Drury Lane’s lovely dining room prior to the matinee performance. Walk Rate = 1

I received a letter from the Spirit of Peoria that due to a tough 2020 - 2021, they have decided to close down the boat and it will be under new ownership after April 30. This saddens me greatly, as it was one of our best trips.

If you have paid for the trip or made a deposit, I will be writing refunds this week.
