OPEN! The 85th Season for WOLF CREEK SKI AREA Started this week after 27" of snowfall last weekend. Lift Tickets are at Local Appreciation Rates; $68 for adults, $49 for seniors and $34 for children.

Ski School, Ski & Snowboard Rental, and Treasure Sports are open. The Pathfinder Bar is open as well as the Continental Espresso Bar. Early Fall season conditions with groomed trails. Fall Colors Driving Tours Part 1 - Fall is one of the best seasons here at Rio Grande County and the surrounding Rio Grande National Forest.
Warm days and cool night temperatures usher in the color change in the high country aspen trees. Change can usually start to peak around September 25th- October 1. Here are a few of our favorite drives to view the brilliant hues. P.S. Don’t forget your camera!
Nearby to Alpine Accents Resort - go towards South Fork on Hwy 160 From the resort and turn on to Park Creek Road. (FS Rd 380)
From South Fork, CO Take Hwy 160 West of South Fork (towards Wolf Creek pass) to the Park Creek Road (FS Rd 380) Turn off to the left. Continue on up Park Creek Road to aspen viewing areas for miles. You will likely see deer along this route and enjoy the creek and wildflowers. It’s a beautiful drive in the summer or fall. Wintertime it is a favorite snowmobile trail.

Creede's SALSA FIESTA - Creede Mountain Run August 31- Sept 1.
Spicing up the Labor Day weekend, Creede hosts a festival celebrating our versions of a Southwest staple. The annual Salsa Fiesta has become a hot ticket item (pun intended) and people travel from all over the country to taste test their way to a cool glass of water. The best part of this festival—you’re the judge. There are usually 15-plus stations throughout the downtown area in which local chefs and businesses try their hands at creating original salsa concoctions that fall into four categories: Red, Green, Fruit, and Freestyle. What's Not to LOVE about WATERFALLS! We have several waterfalls in the greater South Fork & Creede CO area. Closest to Alpine Accents at Nearby Big Meadow Reservoir is Cascade Falls a short walk with wildflowers. Treasure Falls is a short drive over Wolf Creek Pass and has a short trail hike to the falls and a nice misting deck to stand and get cooled off. The Next two falls are above Creede CO, South Clear Creek Falls and North Clear Creek falls are worth the extra time to visit. South Clear Creek is a short hike from the campground and provides access to the river below the falls and North Clear Creek Falls is the most photographed waterfall in Colorado and is accessible for handicap visitors. Put some these falls on your must visit list while you are on vacation here.

PERSEID METEOR SHOWER PEAK
August 12, 13 2024. All of us in the Northern Hemisphere rank the August PERSEID METEOR SHOWER as our all-time favorite meteor shower. The Perseid's take place during the warm days & nights of northern summer, when many of you are on vacation here in the beautiful Rio Grande National Forest mountains. What a bonus event! Plus, 2024 is an excellent year for this shower! No matter where you are staying, the 2024 Perseid meteor shower will probably produce the greatest number of meteors on the mornings of August 12 and 13. Late evening to dawn find a wide-open space for viewing.

Perseid meteors will all start from one access point in the northeast sky near the constellations of Cassiopeia and Perseus, then streak across the sky, if you are lucky an “EARTHGRAZER” a low, slow colorful meteor will travel horizontally across the evening sky. Most often seen before midnight when the radiant point of the shower is close to the horizon. They are rare but memorable!

Here at Alpine Accent Resort we have great dark skies at night and the surrounding areas are perfect for viewing. Of course, while you are waiting for meteors to appear you can scan the sky for constellations and planets. We recommend downloading the free “Sky Map” app for your smart phone. When you point it a direction it will tell you the stars and planets you can see tonight. So much fun to explore the heavens at night!

SOUTH FORK's LOGGER DAYS July 19-21. Free Event
South Fork celebrates the area’s culture and history during the Annual Logger Days Festival. Events and competitions taking place throughout the weekend celebrate the time-honored tradition of logging, an initial economic draw for the area. Crowd-favorite competitions include chainsaw carving, the ax throw, the two-man cross cut, and a relay-type race with team members pulled from the audience.

History of the Event
You are surrounded by more than 2 million acres of forest. This mountain land has produced lumber since the 1870s, when the first loggers arrived — and the trees are still growing — a slow dance of green growth. Loggers and their friends compete in contests to gage their skills as lumberjacks: Teams and Individuals come from all over the west.
