We wanted to share this great achievement by The Idle Hour
Launched in 1981, the Restaurant Awards represent the world’s only program focused exclusively on restaurant wine service. They are assigned on three levels: the Award of Excellence, the Best of Award of Excellence and the Grand Award, with 2,150; 1,531; and 96 winners this year in each respective category.
The Idle Hour has won the Award of Excellence.
The Award of Excellence recognizes restaurants whose wine lists feature a well-chosen assortment of quality producers along with a thematic match to the menu in both price and style.

4. Emerald Bay's Unique Color
The bay is named for its striking emerald-green color, which comes from the shallow, sandy bottom reflecting the blue-green algae and the sun’s light. The contrast with the deeper, darker waters of Lake Tahoe makes it even more picturesque.

11PM Update: Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District is reporting progress on the Quilicy Fire. It is now 400 acres in size. The fire was started by a vehicle fire on I-80 and they ask the public to avoid the Gold Ranch/Verdi area. Eastbound Interstate 80 is currently closed at the state line.

Considered one of the finest examples of Scandinavian architecture in North America, Vikingsholm castle sits on the shore of Emerald Bay with astonishing views of Lake Tahoe. Built in 1929, according to the wish of Lora J. Knight, a wealthy Chicago widow who purchased this then-isolated site and had it constructed into a Norse fortress from 800 A.D, Vikingsholm represents unique blend of art and history.

The Jeffrey Pine is the most common tree in the Lake Tahoe Basin. It has longer needles than any other pine in the Basin (7-11” long). Its bark is distinctive from all other pines because of strong resins which give the bark a vanilla or pineapple odor. If you think you’re looking at a Jeffrey, put your nose right up to the bark and take a sniff!

Fannette is the only island to be found in all of Lake Tahoe. It is located in beautiful Emerald Bay on the west shore of the lake. A sparsely timbered, brush covered upthrust of granite that rises 150 feet above the water, Fannette Island was not always known by that name. During the past 100 years it has been known as Coquette, Fannette, Baranoff, Dead Man's, Hermit's, and Emerald Isle. Fannette was the name that finally stuck.
