Be careful when enjoying our gorgeous Lake and Rivers
Even though temps have dropped a bit this weekend, warmer temps 🌞 are in the forecast for the upcoming week. While many of us will be enjoying the outdoors including the lake please remember that rivers and the lake are cold 🥶even with the summer temperatures.
Did you know? Cold water shock can occur in water temperatures below 60 degrees, seriously affecting your breathing and movement. The average water temperature of Lake Tahoe is 50 to 64 degrees in June. Cold water shock is often underestimated and can lead to drowning. Don't put yourself or others at risk!
Also, if you are paddleboarding, kayaking, or boating 🚤remember to wear a life jacket. If you slip or injure yourself during any of these activities, a life jacket can save your life. If you are jumping into the lake off a boat and are not used to the cold water, wear a life jacket too! This includes our furry friends who get cold as well.
Don't have a life jacket? Loaner vests are available from South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue
