A Blizzard is headed toward Tahoe, and we owners can't tell if guests are there or not. The calendar doesn't show today - a Leap Day. If you ARE there, do be prepared. The lanterns and flashlights are plentiful and have been tested. The smoke - fire detectors are on duty with YEARS of power and the fire extinguishers have been inspected. Firewood is provided, so make a fire, but keep it small and controllable. Candles are strongly discouraged - one mistake can ruin everything. Be VERY fire safe, for YOUR protection!

THE HOUSEKEEPERS: As guests at Tahoe Acres, you probably notice the extra work and skill they put in for every guest. They really know their stuff! They also know their stuff on keeping us owners at the top of our game, too. We don't even know it! We get a list of things we need to do, right after the holidays. This time, TWO duvet covers will need to be replaced before you notice it. Of course, this means we replace ALL the adult sized ones and have extras for the bunk beds, which the kids love. As long as we're shopping, those side couches in the great living room could use updating.... Yes, the replacements will will arrive soon - between visits. The 'old' furnishings are donated to community good causes, because they still have a lot of life to them. It's what we do!

Our guess is that the people who enjoyed Thanksgiving this fall really enjoyed it! Thanksgiving 2024 is already booked!

Getting ready for winter, everything is getting ready! The professionals take care of the things they do - like the furnace. We found six new "Coleman" battery operated lanterns, which I (Dad) shipped off to be installed by the sons before the snow falls. If the power goes out, who says that can't be FUN? Oh yeah, a big load of firewood was just delivered, so winter WILL BE fun!

Just because our early July visit is over doesn't mean it's over. Maintenance and the appliance expert collaborate with us to solve tiny problems while they're still tiny. That dishwasher: Bill attacking it with lemon didn't do much good, so maintenance suggested a new one, with a stainless steel finish. Mighty cool! Within an hour, there I am at a Home Depot in Boise, ordering it's Tahoe delivery! We just work that fast! The cooktop is rare and rebuilding it in place is the thing to do! Are they done yet? I won't know before YOU do! By the way, that back yard turned out even better than imagined! We hope you enjoy it! We do!

Here we are at the last night of the "Owner's Week"! The last of us leaves on Friday morning, with new guests checking in mere hours later! Will they notice our week of maintenance and improvements? PROBABLY NOT! The garage door went through a tough winter - and looked it - AWFUL! That was days of scraping, sanding, prepping, priming and finally PAINTING, with paint than now costs $100 a gallon! Will anyone notice? No, that's the idea. You also won't notice that we tightened up every nut and bolt on the garage door, either. You MAY notice that we found some cute stickers for the back sliding doors, which show some doggies, kitties and Tahoe pictures. Very amusing, and we hope they keep little ones from running into the glass! Many little fixes made, and calls placed for an issue or two needing professional attention! As promised, the back yard is now a beautiful oasis, THE perfect place for a meal and sunset watching! Enjoy the summer and into the Fall.

Spring is with us, with a wonderful summer right around the corner! The rebuilding of the back yard last year has been completed and the grounds have just been completely cleaned from a rough winter and the word is that it looks great! A new kitchen addition awaits you: The new waffle maker cooks TEN little waffles at the same time! We couldn't resist getting it for you, and it works GREAT! They may be small, but they only take a couple of minutes per batch and they TASTE GREAT! It's part of the fun!

After all that winter has dished out to Tahoe Acres, management finally needed to call me with an update and request! Rather than a report that snow has flattened everybody's favorite Tahoe place, the refrigerator is misbehaving. Well, that's easy: Get a new one, get my favorite top brand and get it there on the double jiffy! While looking around the same source, I found a new, commercial grade, 10 piece waffle maker for Tahoe Acres! What could be more perfect? I got that too, and will bring it when I next visit the property myself! Until then, the 8 piece waffle maker will have to do.

At long last, the sinks in the master bathroom have been replaced with new ones! They haven't sent any photos yet, but the right sinks were just a bit difficult to find.

01/21/2022

Hello Friends! It's been a while since I've had an update for you, so here it goes. The master bathroom sinks still look awful. The Maintenance Department and I have given up on getting the refinisher back, so maintenance suggested just replacing the sinks. Why didn't I think of that? That will happen by surprise this winter.

2020 called for the removal of some hazardous trees, so remove them we did. By 2021, the roots went wild, breaking all the irrigation lines, so the back yard went "natural", which is a nice way of saying "dirt". Nobody seemed to mind, but we had the root problem taken care of this Fall. Returning the back yard to lawn and prettiness is scheduled for August (late).

That new propane Barbecue.... It's working great!

Today marks the first day of the family pre- winter inspection, maintenance and 'fix up' trip to Tahoe Acres. What make this trip "a first" is that Dad is not in attendance this time. This time, The Next Generation is in full charge. The 2 sons and a wife will be making the calls and taking the actions. Unfortunately, the refinish of the master bath sink still needs to happen. It's a stinky process and it takes time for the fumes to go away - time we just haven't had, due to heavy guest visits.

08/27/2020

Report from a busy mid summer! I'm told that the season is a dry one and that the fire authorities have banned outdoor charcoal barbecues for now. Not to worry, we have that fine 5 burner propane grill on hand, which IS OK to use.

Management took Tahoe Acres off line today, to make sure the carpets are sparkling clean. Back on line for your enjoyment on Friday. It was discovered that the coating on one of the master bath sinks is flaking. It may not look quite as nice as we would want, but it's fully functional. The coating guy has already been called, and it will be repaired as soon as possible.

In our last post about our summer inspection trip, we discussed the massive tree removal project we supervised. There are the tiny aspects as well - consider the little kitchen timer on the counter. We all use it every time we go there, but if it stops working, nobody mentions it. WE found it, and it was a short trip to get another - and a backup! Those are the tiny things we find - and make right!

We are just wrapping up our owner's maintenance and inspection visit, and new guests are just waiting to check in tomorrow! How do we know this? They had a package delivered, and came by to pick it up! We noticed a number of things, most of which you will not notice because we fixed them! You WILL notice that the trees on the east side of the property are gone. They were a hazard and had to go, in an operation resembling a military one - complete with tank tread vehicles! We rebuilt the fence they had to take out. Another thing you will notice is the new Internet system - as strong and as fast as you can get. That, and the new sound system in the living room, are thanks to our sons. Here is something to note: One of our sons left his cooler on the back deck quite late. He noticed one of the motion lights go on and found A BEAR helping himself to the cooler! A tap on the window sent him running, but do remember to leave no food or trash out at night. It was a first for us, but it's good to keep in mind that we share the place with some wild animals. Have a happy Tahoe Acres summer! We made the place the best it can be!!

06/18/2020

Tahoe Acres is back in full swing, albeit with some health related changes. Who would have thought it? For the last two summers, Blue Jays have nested above the safety light outside the laundry room door. We have no doubt that they have already returned this year, and are hatching babies right now. Feel free to observe them, and tell us what you find. The family will be coming up soon, to do the mid summer maintenance and inspection visit.

06/07/2020

Tahoe Acres is back in business, with a two day gap in visits next week. You don't see that on the schedule, because of vital tree work, needing to be done. Day one will be the needed tree work, day two will be complete clean up, and day three will see the arrival of happy guests! The next open day for something like that is sometime in August. Tahoe Acres is back to normal!

05/22/2020

Our Family members are ON PROPERTY, inspecting, maintaining and improving Tahoe Acres for your next excellent stay. I have already shipped them supplies to make sure things are absolutely perfect! The word is that guest stays may resume on June 1st, unless some government agency does something.... Check in with management for your next visit.

05/17/2020

As we have seen, the South Lake Tahoe city closure has been extended through the end of May. Expected opening in June, but who knows? Meanwhile, the management people have been doing wonderful things with maintenance and improvements, for a better experience when you CAN come again! If it does extend into June, we can use the time to POUNCE on a grounds improvement project!
