Getting away for some quick , then coming back home to a comet streaking overhead is nothing short of magical. We caught some down south, dinner before they close for the season later this month, and we even made a pit stop at Mono Lake to observe the glassy reflections and chat with some German adventurers. Learning the differences between and isn't so hard for adapting. It all comes down to accessibility, vehicle capability, managing electronics demands, and the basics of comfort. Ironically, the MPGs are actually better with the big rig, as opposed to the RAM. Although, either choice is definitely an investment at the pump. Either way, the ROI is definitely worth it. Which setup would you choose for exploring and why?

Love to see and hear the call of the wild in our backyard. Of course, we do know about the sordid history of apex predators, domesticated livestock, as well as wild game, all across the west. Let's hope that we've learned from the past and can feasibly co-habitate without risking extinction.

Some may see this as detrimental to the Tahoe tourist economy, but this may actually be a good thing. Tahoe is overly congested on weekends, especially after a fresh dusting of snow. So, seeing a few of the consistent weekend warrior clientele go elsewhere for a change could actually open up Tahoe for a more diversified clientele in the long run. How will this trend affect the housing market (STRs, 2nd homeowners, LTR prices, etc.), food and beverage industry, our local rental/retail shops, and more? Well, we know what hasn't been working too well, so let's see how this plays out. As they say, evolve or die. I don't think any of us really want to see the communities around Lake Tahoe become ghost towns for the latest boom/bust era.

Fed up with ski traffic to Lake Tahoe, some Bay Area skiers and snowboarders are opting to fly to ski areas in Utah, Colorado and beyond.

Reading the book about the crazy 1996 climb "Into Thin Air", then subsequently seeing the IMAX movie "Everest", first introduced me to David Breshears. He was an accomplished mountaineer, as well as a pioneering camera operator. Summiting 8000 meter peaks is already an accomplishment. Now, add a 70mm camera to your kit and see how easy it is. Rest in peace, up high. Hope the view is magical on that last summit.

David Breashears was a major figure in two big climbing books, “Seven Summits” and “Into Thin Air.” His sudden death is a shock to the mountaineering world.

Some days are the broad scope of heaven and hell on the mountain. What is it about a large percentage of the guests that leaves quite a bit to be desired? The guy in the yellow pants was just one of four different people that almost ran over Tammy throughout the day. His excuse when I confronted him about the and giving a heads up before almost pushing someone off the trail and into the trees was that she was "turning down the run". Well, let's just say that really tested my mettle and I took the higher ground, even if it wasn't easy. Well, at least we got a few good laps in while dodging a few holes on the trails, as well as a few A-holes across the mountain. Maybe this new snow will see the Zaugg pipe cutter get used for more than just storage, too?

The snow is starting to accumulate around the Tahoe resorts. It's definitely needed as we've all tapped into our ptex resources. Sometimes we forget how low tide it can get, even in a normal season. Now, the "big storm" is rolling in and it's definitely going to change the commute. Will it be all hype and just blow or will it dump the snow that it's predicting to deliver?

Conditions have definitely been all over the place this season. But, there's still some good snow, if you know where to look. However, be prepared, because you may just have to get through some very interesting conditions to find it. Let's hope the next round of storms finds a little more cold temps and some soft snow.

When the crowds make it a bit unbearable around town, you pack up and get out of town for a quick escape. So, why not head out to a ghost town. Too bad we were planning our visit based on Summer hours. Winter hours are a couple hours shorter, just in case you also need to know. But, I think we still did alright with everything else we found. Plus, we even got an apres refuel on the way back home.

Thankful for all the work that our , , , and all the other people that help to make the mountains so . It was good to get out and remind ourselves what the mountains can do to our soul. Now, if we could probably work on some of the other frothing guests to get their dialed...then our world might be a bit better for us all.

The circle of life is alive and well this time of year. Spring is known as the time of rebirth, but Fall is the time for survival prep. Birds, bears, and other bold predators are stocking up and preparing for the long, cold, Winter ahead. Are you more predator or prey? I guess that all depends on your preparation. Watching the action at reminds us all what it takes to survive in the mountains.

Even today, these valleys are still sought out by many adventurers for fishing, snowsports, , and more. It's safe to say that the names of these valleys still ring as true as they did back in the 1800s.
