Crazy weather today. Rain, thunder, sun, glassy conditions and winds blowing out of the north then 25mph out of the south. Lots of fish as they loved the unstable conditions. Limited days as we continue with the no catch no pay through the month of May. Capt Dave Edwards

Fishing Report South Padre Island,
Texas. Last few days have been gloomy with water temps holding in the low 70’s. Trout continue to migrate into the bay system, many with egg sacks already. Pretty green colored water around Holly Beach and the Refuge have been working with corks, live shrimp or imitation shrimps. A straight 1/8 or 1/4 oz Jig and plastic shrimp, hooked w**dless is working great in the deep grass along the Pasture. Lots of black drum continuing to migrate through the bay system. Scattered reds continue to feed in the shallow grass mixed with pot holes on artificials and bait. Our best red action seems to be when it’s sunny with a stiff S/SE wind. The reds seem to be sick of the gloomy winter like conditions and have been difficult to catch within 24 hours after a northern. If you can fish the northern as it’s coming through, hold onto those rods tight! Sheepshead are still at the jetties with a few bull reds and some nice mangroves being caught there also. Make a note when out on the water, that as of March 26th,2024 the daily bag limit on speckled trout will be three per angler. The change is state wide.

Fishing report South Padre Island:
Water temps in the low 70’s and rising. Reds continue their heavy feeding after a long winter. Table Top and the guts in South Bay have been producing some great action on the P.M. incoming tides for them. Lots of reds near the Arroyo and edges of the grass flats on 1/8th ounce jig and a 3 1/2 inch Golden Raider. Flats have been extremely shallow so be careful you don’t get stuck. The ICW , when not blown out is producing lots and lots of trout. Corks, plastics and live Shrimp are working well. The color change north of the causeway has a lot of smaller trout that you will have to go through to get to those keepers. Still big herds of black drum roaming the flats and edges of deeper water. Sheepshead are still at the jetties on live shrimp. Be careful out there as the waters are starting to get busy. Any questions feel free to message me. Capt Dave Edwards

South Padre Island, TX. Water temps in the Lower Laguna Madre are at 64 degrees. It’s been a red fish type of week as they start to move into the shallow flats seeking the warmer waters that are near 70 degrees by late day. Jigs, spoons and dead bait are working best for my guests. Windy afternoon have been the pattern that has been working. Lots of trout continuing to feed in the shallow off colored waters on live shrimp and artificial’s. Thousand of black drum have re appeared and our making their way through our bay system. Bay water temps out of South Padre in the low 60’s and rising. Lots of Reds moving throughout the LLM for the first part of this February. Sheepshead are starting to stage on the north and south jetties. Lots of trout moving into the shallow waters as our temperatures rise. A few schools of large drum but the winter herds are starting to thin out. Guests are enjoying the best bite in the afternoon as the waters warm and the tides move in. Don’t forget the sun screen and light jacket!

Winter weather is headed out after this weekend. We have been fortunate that most of January has been mild. Lots of nice catches for the first of the year and I anticipate even more as our weather warms up on the LLM out of S. Padre.

A little breezy yesterday on the LLM but the big fish are feeding heavy before our waters get cooler for the winter. Thankfully with South Padre’s mild winters fishing remains pretty good though out this time. Bring a jacket!

Water temps in the grass flats out of South Padre are at 69 degrees . Reds are good and scattered around spoil islands, Gaswell and NE of Green Island. Windy days seem to be the best bites. Trout are good along the ICW on plastics and live shrimp. West of Long bar is also holding trout on the w**d line. A few broken pods of scattered black drum are being seen in the sand and along the bridge bar. Capt Dave
