Recreation Spotlight: Big Bend Swimming Beach at the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area

The Big Bend Swimming Beach is located at the upper end of scenic Lake Vesuvius in Lawrence County, Ohio. The beach is a great spot to relax at during the summer. It features a sandy beach, shallow swimming area, picnic tables, bathrooms, an outdoor shower, foot wash station, drinking water, and access to the Lakeshore Trail. No lifeguards are present at the beach.

The Big Bend Swimming Beach is part of the Wayne National Forest’s Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area. In addition to the beach, this recreation area features trails, campgrounds, picnic areas, an archery range, historic structures, and more centered around the 143-acre Lake Vesuvius. With all the options available, it’s easy to spend hours or days exploring and enjoying the Lake Vesuvius Recreation Area.

Big Bend Swimming Beach is open seasonally from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM every day. Big Bend Swimming Beach is a fee area, and each vehicle must pay a $3 fee to enter the day-use area.
