Happy National Beach Day....every day is a Beach Day in the OBX!

Took a DNA test and it turns out, we're 100% that #1 beach in the country.

Every year, Dr. Stephen Leatherman aka "Dr. Beach" surveys the 650 public beaches along the U.S. Coast. You could say he gives them each a DNA test, using 50 criteria to measure beach quality. From water, sand, and wildlife, to safety and management - he considers it all!

Beaches within Cape Hatteras National Seashore have consistently made it on his annual Top 10 beach list, with this year being no exception. This is the second time the Ocracoke Lifeguarded Beach has cinched the #1 spot (last time was in 2007), with the Old Lighthouse Beach in Buxton coming in at #6 this year.

For we hope you are able to get out and on our pristine, protected beaches!

Also, swell from Tropical Storm Henri (expected to become a hurricane today while remaining well offshore) continues to build, bringing powerful surf and dangerous rip currents to all area beaches. It is recommended that you remain out of the ocean through this weekend!

Did you hear the news - both WBC locations are now dog friendly! We allow two (friendly, well behaved) dogs per week at Duck and one dog per week at Southern Shores. We can't wait to welcome our furry friends to the beach this year. Here's a quick link to the pet rules for each town: https://obxbeachaccess.com/outer-banks-leash-laws/- In short, dogs are allowed on the beach anytime/year round in Duck and from 6pm - 9am during the season in SS.

Willems Beach Club @ Southern Shores is fully booked for high season, but Willems Beach Club @ Duck still has two open weeks: July 24-31 & Aug. 21-28.
