The Southport-Fort Fisher ferry will be on a one-boat schedule on Monday, Nov. 27, so that film crews can film a Netflix show.

LIVE BURN TRAINING: The Southport Fire Department will be conducting 2 live burns in the city of Southport during the month of November.

The properties that will be burned for training purposes will be 616 North Caswell Avenue and 609 North Burrington Avenue. Both structures have been under abatement status with Code Enforcement. This will be done through a partnership of our department, the State of NC OSFM, and the Brunswick Community College. All of the NC Air Quality permits, asbestos inspections, and approval from other state agencies have been obtained and are on file. Adjacent property owners are being notified. There will be some streets that will be blocked on the day of the burns, and fire hydrants in the areas will be utilized.

616 North Caswell will be burned on Saturday, November 18, 2023, beginning at 7am. This will be an all-day/evening event. A portion of West Owens Street and North Caswell Avenue will be shut down during this event.

609 North Burrington will be burned on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, beginning at 4pm. This will be an evening event. A portion of Burrington Avenue will be closed during this event.

Southport businesses are decking the town with the Third Annual Storefront Showcase holiday decorating contest. From Friday, December 1 to Saturday, December 9, visitors, guests, or residents of Southport can follow the Storefront Showcase map that will be available online to visit each store and cast votes on each participating business. There will be five categories: Most Original, Most Kid-friendly, Most Traditional, Biggest Surprise, or Best Overall. Voting participants may vote more than once per category.
