Mission Statement

The Southwest Harbor & Tremont Chamber of Commerce seeks to promote a vibrant economic community by attracting visitors and connecting them to local businesses. The Chamber is also a place for business owners to meet and work on local issues where the co-operation of the larger group is useful to accomplish goals that singly, businesses cannot achieve on their own. In addition, the Chamber contributes to the larger community by supporting worthwhile events.

A letter from Rick Savage:

As a lifelong resident of Mount Desert Island, I often show visiting family and friends the special sights that surround us on this beautiful coast of Maine. In addition to stunning scenic views of our coastline, we are blessed to find the home of the world-class collection of vintage autos that are located at the Seal Cove Auto Museum.

Recently, I took some guests to the Museum, and they were enthralled by the cars and the historical context that the Museum includes on the displays. As our website says, “The Seal Cove Auto Museum shares these stories — the innovation, ingenuity, and the power of imagination — that created these vehicles and transformed life in America.”

The Seal Cove Auto Museum is open May through October and has events year-round. It hosts visitors daily in the season as well as charity fundraising galas, speaker series for groups, and provides space for meetings and gatherings for non-profits.

Your tax-deductible donation, no matter the size, makes a significant impact. We are reaching out to you to help preserve and protect this valuable collection and to continue to offer enriching programs for the community.

MDI Hospital is pleased to announce it is set to acquire Acadia Family Center (AFC) in a strategic move that will enhance access to health services and expand community engagement on Mount Desert Island. This transition, expected to begin December 18, includes the integration of Acadia Family Center’s services into MDI Hospital’s Community Health Center in Southwest Harbor and Northeast Harbor Clinic, ensuring seamless continuity of behavioral healthcare for the island’s residents.

Chrissi Maguire, President and CEO of MDI Hospital, expressed her gratitude for Acadia Family Center’s contributions to the island’s healthcare, stating, “We are deeply appreciative of the work the Acadia Family Center has done over the years. Look at the Staff and volunteers busily stamping those envelopes!
You may have received an appeal letter in the mail this week from me, Mike Staggs.

It’s been a pleasure to work with everyone connected with our collection this year. I enjoyed meeting a community of history fans and automobile enthusiasts and nurturing our partnerships locally and nationally. Our museum BOD, staff, and volunteers are amazing, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic.

Preserving and protecting this beautiful collection of Brass Era vehicles, as well as presenting programs that capture the history of this period and its creative makers, requires ongoing support.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation to support our work. Your contribution will help us preserve our collection, enhance educational programs, host special events, and expand our outreach. Every contribution makes a significant difference.
Please consider making a gift to support our work. Your tax-deductible donation will directly impact our ability to:

• Preserve and protect our unique collection of vintage automobiles like the Knox and FRP.
• Develop and enhance educational history programs for students and visitors.
• Host special events that bring the community together and celebrate our shared history.
• Expand our outreach to ensure that more people can experience the wonders of automotive history.
