2024 was another successful year in Spartanburg County, as our team recruited 23 economic development projects, totaling $745 million in investment and 1,220 new jobs, to our county. Existing industry expansion was key countywide, as companies who have found success here reinvested in their facilities, their operations, and most importantly, in our people.

Spartanburg came in at #11 in U-Haul’s Top-25 Growth Cities, measuring one-way customer moves during the year. The company found Spartanburg saw more incoming than outgoing traffic, attributed to a plethora of job opportunities with large and small businesses alike, as well as those choosing to live in Spartanburg but commute to work elsewhere.

We’re kicking off 2025 on the economic development front with some exciting news in the form of a long-term investment by Luck Companies, a crushed stone aggregates and environmental products provider. The company will invest $450M across the state, including $132M in an Enoree facility over the next 20 years. The investment includes a quarry and opportunities for future commercial development.

The investment is expected to create 25 jobs and is part of Luck Companies $450 million over 20 years to grow operations in South Carolina.

🚨 Re: Degree Spartanburg has hit the century mark!
As we close out 2024, we want to celebrate our Re:Degree initiative, powered by the OneSpartanburg Vision Plan 2.0 and Movement 2030, a game-changing economic mobility initiative led by the Spartanburg Academic Movement. Re:Degree aims to reengage thousands of individuals countywide with some college experience but no degree and as of December, the program has surpassed 100 students reenrolled, pursuing their degree, and we’ve even been able to celebrate a handful of students who have graduated thanks to Re:Degree. This program is delivering real results for real people, helping advance economic growth and employment possibilities. Earlier this month, members of our team were proud to join leaders from across our community in celebrating the dedication of the new Spartanburg County Courthouse.
“Thanks to our citizens, that voted yes to the capital penny back in 2017. Without their support none of this would be possible. So, thank you Spartanburg County voters for investing in our future, this is your penny in action."

Spartanburg leaders gathered on Tuesday for the dedication of the new Spartanburg County Courthouse. The facility was funded by a penny sales tax.

: We celebrated last week the completion of two key repaving projects funded by the Capital Penny Sales Tax, approved by voters countywide in 2023. North Daniel Morgan Ave., just behind the new Courthouse, and Highway 290 – one of our county’s most-traveled roads – have each been freshly-repaved. And each of the 577 projects set to be funded by the Penny have all kicked off in some fashion, whether it’s design work, road prep, or the start of paving.

Spartanburg County officials met on Thursday to celebrate the first major penny projects being completed and to announce the upcoming projects.
