was presented with her company business cards - after 2 years of working at Vanity. What took me so long to get them for her? Short answer: superstition.

For new followers, a story time .

Vanity had 2 successful locations prior to the covid shutdown. One in Tri Cities for 4 years and one in Spokane.

Our Tri Cities location had an amazing staff - super profitable - made me look fabulous as a boss who only came in to see my own clients one or two days per week. As soon as I refilled an order of their business cards (there were 3 lovely estheticians in addition to me) - boom - we got shut down as “non essential”. We were shut down for almost 6 months in different phases.

My commercial lease for Kennewick was up for renewal during the shut down so we had to make the difficult business decision to “cut the branch to save the tree” so we decided not to sign on for more contract debt and closed our Tri Cities location. My prior staff all had young kids on virtual learning so they were able to take advantage of unemployment during that wild time.

But.

We are fully self funded and during Covid our business lost over $100k.

In the meantime - I opened the Spokane location (where we are now) in February of 2020. Only a month later we were shut down in March of 2020 but we slowly started building because Spokane County opened earlier than Benton County with the state’s “phasing process”.

I had my sweet employee Sydney who was with me for 18 months slowly building her books and a week after I got her business cards - life took her over to the west side. I was pretty devastated as an employer trying to replicate the amazing team.

Now enters Bailey - who I absolutely adore and she’s reminded me without pressure that she needs business cards. Well. Here they are and I’m very hopeful she hands out so many cards that we order another box very soon because we sure appreciate her around here.

What goes on behind a small business scene is often millions of tiny decisions, failures, try agains and pivots. But one thing is for sure - we are blessed beyond measure with our beautiful clients and our small team.
