Last Friday, our HBCU students in the Sands Hospitality Immersion Program completed their final day in Las Vegas by returning to our corporate campus for a learning session with our executives who spoke about their careers in a variety of disciplines. We then celebrated their week-long visit in a certificate ceremony with Thurgood Marshall College Fund, and the students finished the day with a tour of Allegiant Stadium. We wish our 15 participants much success as they continue their college journeys and hope this immersion helped shape their future plans!

Yesterday, the 15 HBCU students participating in the Sands Hospitality Immersion Program in conjunction with Thurgood Marshall College Fund were on site at our corporate headquarters campus for their Events & Entertainment learning session, providing them with a look at one of the most exciting components of the Las Vegas hospitality industry. The day also included a guest address by the Mirage’s Executive Pastry Chef Everett Williams, and tours of Caesars Forum and Harrah’s. Thank you to our Las Vegas hospitality colleagues for supporting these students!

This week, we’re hosting 15 students from 10 HBCUs who are entrenching in the Las Vegas hospitality industry, through our partnerships with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund and the Sands Center for Professional Development at the UNLV Harrah College of Hospitality. Day 1 set the stage for the week with an introduction to hospitality, and Day 2 featured a deep dive into food and beverage operations, including hands-on experience at a Team Chopped Competition with professional chefs. In addition to instructional opportunities, guest speakers and events, students are touring hospitality venues throughout the week, all with the goal of exposing them to the wide variety of rewarding careers in travel, tourism and leisure.

Led by UNLV and Nevada State College instructor Jessica Price, a specialist in gender and LGBTQ+ topics, the workshop provided insights on how media programming shapes cultural perceptions.

It was an action-packed week for 17 University of North Texas hospitality students who visited Las Vegas in early June. Underwritten by Sands Cares, their Las Vegas Study Tour featured a first stop at our corporate headquarters to hear from our executives, including our very-own University of North Texas alum – EVP & CFO Randy Hyzak, about the variety of career tracks in the industry, followed by a full week of visits to various integrated resorts and hospitality venues, tours, learning opportunities and a trip to the UNLV International Gaming Institute and gaming lab.
