Casa Malpais Archaeological Park and Museum

Casa Malpais Archaeological Park and Museum Casa Malpais is an ancient pueblo from the Mogollon Culture, built and occupied between 1250 and 1340 AD. The site became a National Historic Landmark in 1964.

Site Hiking Tours: Tue-Sat, 9AM & 1PM (weather permitting)-Please come 30 min prior to tour time
(Temporarily closed for the Winter-Museum is open all year)
Casa Museum Hours: Mon-Fri, 8 AM - 5 PM
Sat 8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Closed on Sundays & Holidays The site contains a Great Kiva, solar calendar, 50-60 room pueblo, and an ancient staircase that, when ascended, takes you up on the rim of the s

hield volcano that created the lava flow the site is located on. Labeled the "fissure pueblo" by Frank Hamilton Cushing in 1883, it has numerous means of tracking the sun, and is truly a remarkable site for its time. Visitors to the museum will enjoy many of the artifacts that were excavated in the early 1990's, as well as a film about the site that features Hopi and Zuni elders that talk about how their culture relates to the site.

Casa Malpais Archeological Park is a one of Arizona's special National Landmarks. Inhabited around 1250 AD to approx. 1340 AD, the site features a unique display of a Solar Calendar, kiva, stone stairway and rock art. Visit during our tours (March - October weather pending) and you may see other gifts of nature!
