Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties

Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties advocates for and supports a system

MHRB believes in:
- Creating and supporting Recovery-Oriented Systems of Care (ROSC). This means that we use creative approaches to prioritize the needs of individuals and family members and help people find recovery from mental illness and substance use problems. We uphold individual preferences and that there are many pathways to finding and sustaining recovery. This means that healthy environme

nts are just as important as individual change.
- Supporting trauma-informed communities. We recognize that trauma is a common experience and understand that creating safe spaces is integral to facilitating quality care and necessary to foster growth.
- Advocating for care in the least restrictive settings, while also supporting inpatient levels of care when necessary.
- Finding strategic, cross-system solutions by identifying a common agenda and using common language, by sharing data, by supporting mutually reinforcing activities, and by using continuous communication with system partners.

First responders stand ready to serve and protect their communities and citizens, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. They often sacrifice time with their families, their physical health and well-being, and all too often, their mental health. Using Bi-Partisan Safer Communities Act funding, we are pleased to announce free trainings for community-based licensed clinicians to prepare them to provide services to first responders (law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch/communications, and local corrections) and their families.
After attending the Achieving Competence in the Treatment of First Responders Training, clinicians will better understand some of the unique risks facing Ohio’s Public Safety personnel in addition to the resources that are available to them as members of the First Responder community.
Training Description Achieving Competence in the Treatment of First Responders:
This training series will provide clinicians with insight into the culture of working with first responders including law enforcement, fire, EMS, dispatch/communications, and local corrections. This training promotes cultural competence, provides knowledge regarding the ethical and legal concepts associated with working these populations, defines core proficiencies and terminology, as well as enhancing an overall understanding of how each clinician working with this population can do so effectively and competently. Upon completion of this training, participants will be expected to make arrangements with a local public safety agency (law enforcement, fire, EMS, or dispatch/communications) for a ride-a-long or observation period. A minimum of four hours will be required. Each participant in the training will be expected to provide documentation of the ride-a-long. The OhioMHAS First Responder Liaison can assist in arranging these ride-a-longs in the clinician’s home area. All trainings will be held in person. Participants must be a licensed counselor, social worker, Marriage and Family Therapist, psychologist, or Chemical Dependency Counselor. Graduate students in social work, psychology, and counseling may apply to attend.
Training Date: Tuesday, February 4, 2025
Training Location: Clearcreek Township Police Department, 7705 Bunnell Hill Rd, Springboro, OH 45066
Training: In-person
Time: Registration 8-8:30 am
Training 8:30 am-5:00 pm
Application for CE clock hours has been submitted for approval.

An application must be completed by interested clinicians. Training sessions will be limited to a maximum of 50 clinicians.

To apply: https://multiplicityofthemind.com/first-responder-training-application/

By: Friday, January 31, 2025 (please submit only the registration form). Applicants will be notified via email regarding acceptance to the training.

Our Story

At Mental Health Recovery Board of Clark, Greene & Madison Counties (MHRB), we know that healthy people create healthy communities—and vice versa. That’s why we provide help to those in need by connecting residents to the local care community, regardless of income or ability to pay.

We assist partners, stakeholders, residents, and anyone at risk of mental health or substance use concerns, providing pathways to mental health and addiction services for everybody and every family in our three-county area. We connect those who need it to treatment, while also creating prevention-prepared and recovery-oriented communities that are resilient, supportive, and trauma-informed.

Our dedicated board members and staff provide resources for prevention, treatment, and support, while upholding a community-wide safety net to protect families, adults, and children. Knowing that individuals who have basic needs met are more likely to get and stay well, we advocate for better quality of life and provide resources for basic needs like transportation, housing, and medication.

MHRB is one of 50 Boards that make up Ohio Association of County Behavioral Health Authorities, a trade association for Ohio’s Alcohol, Drug Addiction, and Mental Health (ADAMH) Boards. The association awards Culture of Quality Certification (COQ) to Boards who have demonstrated evidence of substantial conformance with the COQ standards and a serious commitment to meeting the goals of the COQ program. MHRB is proud not only to be a COQ-certified board, but to have two volunteer surveyors on staff.
