A hidden gem you must visit this weekend… @yiddish_book_center 📚
The Yiddish Book Center was founded in 1980 by Aaron Lansky, then a 24-year old graduate student of Yiddish literature (now, the Center’s President). During his studies he realized that a number of irreplaceable Yiddish books, the legacy of a thousand years of Jewish life in Eastern Europe, were being discarded by American-born Jews unable to read the language of their Yiddish-speaking parents and grandparents. He launched a campaign to save the world’s remaining Yiddish books before it was too late and there you have it...The Yiddish Book Center was born.
Their goal is to place old volumes into the hands of new readers. They’ve had great success, locating books in the United States, Canada, Mexico, Cuba, Venezuela, Chile, Uruguay, Argentina, England, France, South Africa, Australia, and other countries around the world. They continue to collect additional volumes each year and can’t wait to share them with each guest who walks through their doors.
