What a night at Springfield's The BLOCK Party. So many of you showed up to celebrate the Springfield Chamber of Commerce's 75th anniversary, chat with our staff and volunteers, and of course, write your messages for our time capsule project, and/or on the wall during our live mural sponsorship. We had a blast partying with all of you on the BLOCK! 😎🎉

Last Thursday, we celebrated the many, many volunteers who give selflessly to the community by donating their precious time and efforts to our programs, causes, and events. Without these selfless individuals, there would be no Chamber to represent the business and community interests in our area. 💼

Organized by the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce and Springfield Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Eugene Springfield (LES) has helped create civic leaders that are well-equipped to passionately represent their communities since 1986. Selected from a particularly large pool of qualified applicants, the 2024-25 cohort will participate in monthly, day-long sessions that broaden their networks, develop their knowledge and awareness, and hone their leadership skills by exploring a broad base of topics. The program begins in October and ends with graduation in May. 😎

IT'S A WRAP! Our Summer Roundtable Series: The Life Cycle of a Pothole, wrapped up yesterday with Part 3: The Road Ahead, where we focused on the crucial aspects of public infrastructure and road development in Springfield. 🙌

Thank you to Kristi and Stan, engineers from the City of Springfield, Oregon Government, who explained in-depth considerations for road use, the selection of priority infrastructure improvement projects, and answered many questions from the attendees. 👏

The program concluded with an informative tour of the Mill Street construction site across the street from the Chamber, where improvements will begin on September 3rd! 🦺

The Springfield Chamber of Commerce has joined chambers across the country in urging Congress and the new administration to act swiftly to prevent tax increases on individuals and businesses by extending the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA). The TCJA, which currently benefits businesses of all sizes, is set to expire at the end of 2025, posing significant risks to economic growth. 💼⬆️

TONIGHT! Springfield Police Department - Oregon National Night Out Open House – great annual family event in downtown Springfield begins in just a few hours! 👉👮👮‍♀️👏😎

It's finally here! The annual National Night Open House kicks-off in just a few short hours here at the Springfield Justice Center!

You'll have a chance to see different SPD vehicles & equipment, plus the opportunity to meet & greet our fantastic staff. We'll even have K9 demos at 5pm & 6pm, plus flyovers from our own drone team.

Worried about the heat? We've got you covered with free Kona Ice! Not enough? How about a mister and water station provided by our friends at Springfield Utility Board! That's right, all you've got to do is bring your own water bottle and we'll have cold water flowing all afternoon!

We'll have tables from community partners including Kids FIRST, not to mention our friends from Eugene Springfield Fire! Top that off with your chance to Dunk-A-Cop and what more could you ask for?!

Last week, on July 23, our members gathered at RiverBend Materials in Eugene for a deep dive into the construction and aggregate industry. Entitled "From Rock to Road," this discussion and tour represented Part 2 of our Summer Roundtable Series: The Life Cycle of a Pothole. 🕳🚗

Our attendees enjoyed a hands-on tour, learning how vital infrastructure materials are processed and transported. We also got a glimpse into RiverBend's commitment to workforce development, from externships to CDL training. Some of us even got to test out their new training simulators! 🚜

A huge thank you to RiverBend Materials for hosting us, Stacy Tuers from Springfield Public Schools - OR for her talk on workforce development, Lane Transit District for donating the tour bus, and to everyone who joined us for this informative and engaging event. 🌟

A fascinating discussion at yesterday’s Chamber Roundtable program, the first installment of our Summer Roundtable Series: The Life Cycle of a Pothole. 🛤️ This program was Part 1: Manufacturing the Tools of Trade. 🛠️

The program featured a presentation by Avril Watt and Ryan Weaver from Astec Industries, Inc., a heavy equipment manufacturer that locally makes rock crushers and screens. The discussion unveiled the intricate process of manufacturing this equipment, which is crucial in the first steps of road construction and maintenance, and the complexities and challenges around supply chains, workforce, and the regulatory landscapes in the industrial sector. 🏗️

After the Q&A, attendees had a chance to look at an actual piece of equipment, learning more about the process and these powerful machines.

🙌Great News! The Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation has generously donated $1.5 million to support nursing at PeaceHealth Oregon hospitals. This transformative gift will help address the nursing shortage in the area by assisting with recruiting, retaining, and developing new nurses. This gift establishes The Coeta and Donald Barker Foundation Nurse Residency Endowment program, which includes the addition of advanced simulation training equipment and software. Strategic alliances with the nursing schools at Lane Community College and Bushnell University highlights the commitment to attracting talent to the area.
