UPDATE 2: As of 1pm Thursday afternoon, August 29, Going-to-the-Sun Road is fully reopened.

UPDATE: As of 2pm Wednesday afternoon, August 28, the alpine section of Going-to-the-Sun Road is temporarily closed due to dangerous road conditions caused by snow and ice. The closure will be lifted when conditions improve.

A winter weather advisory is in effect from 6am to 6pm today (Wednesday) for areas above 5,000 feet. For reference, Logan Pass is about 6,600 feet, and Marias Pass on Highway 2 is about 5,200 feet.

There is a high likelihood of 3-6" of snow in these high-elevation areas—our webcams are already showing fresh snow on the peaks and at the Logan Pass Visitor Center: https://www.nps.gov/glac/learn/photosmultimedia/webcams.htm

Warm temperatures are expected to return by the weekend, but if you're in the park today, be prepared for unseasonably cold and wet conditions. Please slow down on the roads and drive carefully!
