Don’t miss this week’s meeting on Wednesday at 10am at the Missouri Historical Society
During each day at the 1904 World's Fair, some state, city, or group had special celebrations or recognitions. September 14 was Electricity Day.
While electricity wasn't so new, it was still intriguing for people, especially as new technology was developed. On this day, Fairgoers witnessed for the first time a wireless telegraph being sent from the wireless telegraph station near Art Hill to Chicago.
The following day, September 15, saw record crowds come to the Fairgrounds to celebrate the host city for St. Louis Day. Admission records show total attendance for the day at 404,450!
Newspapers reported that crowds waited up to four hours at the main entrance to enter through the turnstiles. It was also reported that the midway at Union Station was jammed by those traveling into the city for St. Louis Day.
