A recent wedding celebration at THE FEDERAL QUARTERS! As proprietors we were delighted to welcome the bride and groom and their families, who chose to stay at our vacation rental residence THE FEDERAL QUARTERS here in St. Mary's, GA, for their wedding weekend.
After the ceremony, they drove our 1929 Model A Ford (it comes with the house!) from the chapel back to the residence for the catered reception for their 60+ guests. Angela Ottinger, the owner of Lavender and Grace Florists, provided magnificent floral arrangements and bouquets, and Lauren Weatherington of LW Film & Photo produced this marvelous video! Mandee Matthews was the photographer. The weather cooperated, too, and it was a tremendous success.
Our page for THE FEDERAL QUARTERS has just been created and our website is under construction. In the meantime, if you're looking for a unique vacation destination or wedding venue, here is a bit of fascinating history about the property to tempt you:
➖ the oldest house in St. Mary's (built in 1801, now 218 years old!), and registered with the National Trust for Historic Preservation;
➖ the first owner was Major Archibald Clark, an attorney who was appointed by President Thomas Jefferson and served for 35 years as the Tax Assessor for the port of St. Mary's;
➖ Vice-President Aaron Burr (a classmate of Archibald Clark) stayed here when he fled after killing Alexander Hamilton in their infamous duel. (Come sleep where Aaron Burr slept!);
➖ General Winfield Scott stayed when returning from the Indian Wars in Florida;
➖ And some say it's where the ghosts of the Archibald Clark family still reside!
THE FEDERAL QUARTERS is available for a short-term rental (two-nights minimum except during holiday periods or special events). Call us directly at 912-729-7501 for available dates, prices, and additional information. We'd be delighted to host you and your family and special friends.
