What I Wish I Knew Before Traveling with My Autistic Child 💙✈️

Travel can be overwhelming—but with the right strategies, it can also be incredibly rewarding. Here are a few things I’ve learned that made all the difference:

😴 Rest time is important – Over-scheduling leads to meltdowns (for everyone!). Building in downtime helps keep things manageable and enjoyable.

⏱️ Taking it slow is necessary – Rushing from one activity to the next doesn’t work for us. Slowing the pace means less stress and more connection.

👉 Preparation is key – Social stories, visuals, and talking through what to expect ahead of time helps ease anxiety and builds confidence.

🤫 Know your quiet spaces – Research sensory-friendly areas or quiet spots ahead of time. Having a calm place to regroup can be a lifesaver.

Every child is unique, and it’s okay to travel differently. With some flexibility and support, you really can create unforgettable family memories. 💫
