"Choosing an operator that is conservation-minded, with ties to the local community and well-trained guides, can add up to the trip of a lifetime and also nurture nature." "Rwanda’s fertile volcanic soils burst with a staggering diversity of plants: it may account for less than one percent of Africa’s landmass, but the country is home to 15 percent of the continent’s plant species. This bounty—along with Rwanda’s safety and stability—is luring chefs and entrepreneurs from across the world".

Urgent Call to Action: DIA (Direct Impact Africa) Borehole Initiative

As you may know, Zambia is in the worst drought in its history which effects the community in so many ways- from the obvious food shortage and lack of drinkable water to the increase in waterborne illnesses, and the risk to the livelihood of the wildlife surrounding the lower Zambezi. In order to literally save lives, DIA is in the midst of drilling boreholes to provide more access to water. For more information on the project and how to assist with fundraising efforts to give the gift of water, email [email protected]!

Katie is wrapping up her adventure in Madagascar with one last Indian Ocean sunset. While it may not look like work, what we do when we travel is essential for the work we do with our clients. Without on the ground knowledge and experience, we wouldn’t truly be experts! We move fast, we experience a lot, we talk about conservation, we appreciate the beauty, we dig deep into the history and culture, we come away with a profound knowledge and appreciation for the regions we operate and for the partners with whom we work. Conservation based tourism is critical to the heart of EXPLORE.

Katie is returning to the extraordinary island nation of Madagascar. It is a tough job 😉 but we pride ourselves on truly being experts in the destinations to which we design trips. With a few brand new properties that just opened to see, an invitation to join an important whale shark research project, and lots of lemur spotting in remote primary rainforests, it is a busy few weeks ahead for EXPLORE’s Director of Custom Travel!
