Getting our holiday cheer on here in Steamboat Springs! The selection and cutting of a special tree from the forest for the holidays has been a treasured tradition for generations of residents. The Medicine Bow-Routt National Forests offer personal-use Christmas Tree Permits for the cutting of a tree on Forest land. Christmas Tree Permits cost $10 per tree. Be sure to know before you go before heading out on your holiday adventure and bring plenty of layers, food, water, and any supplies you may need to transfer the tree back to your car safely. Happy tree hunting! ⁠

A visit from the girls! In November, elk are in the post-rut season and are feeding on remaining plants before the winter fully takes hold. You may notice a lack of bulls in these herds as the male elk will drift off alone or in bachelor groups.

Here in Steamboat Springs, we have a unique way of measuring snowfall. Ranchers use their fencing to measure unofficial snowfall. By the time we hit the middle of the ski season, the third wire is covered, usually standing three feet high. What are your snowfall predications for this winter? ❄️
