- A Military Tattoo, event, like the Virginia International Tattoo by the Virginia Arts Festival in is an exhibition of military bands, massed pipes and drums, military drill teams, Celtic dancers, and choirs. The term "tattoo" derives from the cries of the 17th and 18th-century Dutch innkeepers who, as the fifes and drums of the local regiment signaled a return to quarters, would cry, "Doe den tap toe!" (or) "Turn off the taps!". The sound of "taps" led to an impromptu parade back to barracks. From our friends at The Philadelphia Orchestra & Share Food Program: The next episode of Our City, Your Orchestra highlights Share Food Program, the largest hunger relief organization in the region. In the last nine months of the COVID-19 pandemic, Share Food Program has distributed more than 50 million pounds of food to people in need.

Musicians and staff from the Orchestra visit their five-acre warehouse in North Philadelphia for a day of music and volunteering. Enjoy works by Mendelssohn, Mozart, and more, starting Monday, May 3, at 7 PM ET!
