Happy New Year to any and all friends of Great Alaska Adventures! We hope the new year brings you and those you love the very best.

We've been woeful Facebook posters and self-promoters I'm afraid, but we wanted to share....the winds of change are blowing at Great Alaska Adventures! For any who may not know, we have been closed for the past two seasons. After our busiest and most successful year yet in 2021, we decided that life was short, and after over 40 years of helping travelers experience the trip of a lifetime, we were ready to get out there and pursue some of our own!

In May of 2022, we were blessed to pass on Alaska Bear Camp (Wayne's homestead) to Natural Habitat Adventures, and they are doing a stellar job. We are now equally blessed to do the same with our cherished homestead on the banks of the Kenai River.

Our next post will introduce the folks who bought Great Alaska, as well as booking information, as we are thrilled to announce that the lodge will be open for business again this summer! While we won't be personally involved, Great Alaska Adventures will live on, and highly encourage you to check them out. They have a fantastic team, have a great way with facilities, and are great people....and we expect great things from them! They now have the greatest location on the amazing Kenai River, as we did for all those years.

I would be remiss if I did not also share that my father, Great Alaska founder and visionary Laurence John passed away this fall, just as we completed the lodge sale. No one loved Alaska more than my father, and I know wherever he is, there will be a great view.

A profound thank you from Laurence, Kathy, myself, Julie, and Deb to each and every guest who chose Great Alaska Adventures over the last 40 years, and for sharing their lives with us. And for me, a special thank you to my wife Julie - I couldn't have done it without you! And finally, to the amazing staff that helped us create these one-of-a-kind trips. You know who you are. :)

Happy New Year,

Kent

“Congratulations to all the resourceful fishermen, processors, tender crews, and support workers who are now part of history, the largest harvest in Bristol Bay’s long history,” said BBRSDA Executive Director Andy Wink. “It takes thousands of tough people laboring through exhaustion, rough weather, sore muscles, mechanical problems, and more to make it happen. Kudos to the dedicated biologists who continue to help keep this fishery thriving and have the skills and confidence to predict this massive run.”

ADOPTED!
This is Aries! Poor Aries was surrendered because he was just too much dog for his owner. The first couple of nights he was here, he was so distraught that he scratched his face on the kennel 😭 He was confused. This big LOVEBUG is so sweet, loves walks, and seems to like other dogs so far! Aries is 2-3 years old, neutered, microchipped, and vaccinated. He is heartworm negative and about 55 pounds. He listens very well and is treat motivated!

Aries is $60 to adopt. We are open Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm!

ADOPTED!
We asked Star how she felt about being in the shelter for another night and she had quite the expression to let us know that she wasn’t happy about it!

Meet Star! This goofy girl is 1 year old, spayed, microchipped, and vaccinated. She is 54 pounds, loves other dogs, loves walks and loves people!

Star is $60 to adopt! We are open Monday through Friday, 8am-5pm! Don’t make Star spend one more night in the shelter 😭

Hello all! An update to the earthquake/Tsunami update of last night. Our main lodge was unaffected, and the tsunami warning was removed after the clients and staff of BearCamp were all moved to higher ground for safety. Everyone is now safe and sound! Thanks to the guests for being good sports and to the amazing staff of BearCamp for safely shepherding all through a true Alaskan Adventure. As one of our employees at the main lodge said...Alaska is truly wild, and all is well! Photo thanks to the birthday girl, Mackenzie John.

At about 10:00 AK time an 8.2 earthquake occurred off the Aleutian Islands of Alaska. All guests and staff at our main lodge on the Kenai River (35 miles inland) are safe and unaffected. Our BearCanp on Chinitna Bay (Cook Inlet) are nominally in the Tsunami warning zone. Out of an abundance of caution, guests and staff moved to high ground near the camp. All are safe and sound. As of 1:03 the advisory is being removed for the entire Kenai Peninsula. More info will be provided as we have it.

Meet Tim, he is one of our awesome fishing guides! This is Tim’s fifth season at Great Alaska Adventures. His favorite fishing in Alaska is for Silver Salmon in the fall. One of Tim’s favorite parts of the job is introducing kids to fishing!
