A simple song from our sisters in Abomey, Benin!
Assiko is traditional music from Cameroon, it is often accompanied by the bottle dance. The Bassa people of the forest region of Cameroon are know for this style. The Bassa people are also known to be some of the best soccer players in Cameroon!
Earlier this week the new Sultan of the Bamoun visited the Museum in Germany which holds the throne of his Ancestor. The Germans claim it was given to them as a gift by his great great grandfather the then Sultan of the Bamoun during German occupation. The Bamoun have been in discussions to return it to Cameroon.
Normally when you visit an exhibit at a museum you are not allowed to touch it. In this case instead of sitting in a separate chair prepared for him next to the throne, the Sultan sat on the throne of his Ancestors. He remarked that as the new Sultan, it is his right to sit on every throne used by his Ancestors.

One of the most important blessings you can get comes from an African traditional leader. This blessing was performed in Douala, Cameroon before our trip to the West. The Douala people are known for their traditional beliefs and their musical abilities. It was an honor!
Thr indigenous population of Cameroon still make their own houses out of local materials, their own food from what they gather from the forest and their own instruments! They are the most amazing musicians!!!

We want you to know that it’s important to travel to Africa if you want to know the truth about who you are and where your ancestors came from.
In this video we had traveled to Abeokuta, Nigeria. Our guide Anago was explaining the history of the city. What he did not mention in this clip was that In although the Dahomians enslaved a lot of people from there, they did not fall to them.
