Libeň Bridge, Prague, July 1942. Germans collecting bells from Bohemia and Moravia. They were smelted down and used for the war effort.

At that time, five ships sailed from Prague on the Vltava and the Elbe river, 9801 bells with a total weight of 1563 tons.

A total of 43,776 bells were removed and smelted in former Czechoslovakia. Of the pre-war number, 13% remained in Bohemia and 6% in Moravia.

This happened throughout most of the occupied countries.

They needed everything they could to build new super weapons...

ŠPANIA DOLINA
V Španej Doline neďaleko Banskej Bystrice bola v minulosti objavená medená ruda s obsahom striebra. Táto sa tu začala ťažiť už niekedy v 11-12 storočí a nálezisko bolo preslávené v celej Európe. Dominantou obce je rímskokatolícky Kostol Premenenia Pána z roku 1254 do ktorého sa vstupuje krytým schodiskom. A poviem Vám, že zdolať 162 schodov Vám poriadne preverí dych.
Povesť hovorí, že keď sa Uhorský kráľ svätý Štefan dozvedel, že niekde v horách leží dolina v ktorej sa nachádza veľa farebných kameňov poslal tam svojho veliteľa, ktorý bol zo Španielska aby takú dolinu našiel. Keď veliteľ so svojou družinou zabočil od Hrona do hlbokej doliny kôň sa mu zakopol o skalu a vyvalil veľký kus rudy. Miesto si označil a a hneď na druhý deň kráľ poslal za Španielom baníkov z celej ríše. Tak vznikol názov Špania Dolina.

ŠPANIA DOLINA (SLOVAKIA)
Copper ore with silver content was discovered in Špania Dolina near Banská Bystrica in the past. It began to be mined here sometime in the 11th-12th centuries and the deposit was famous throughout Europe. The dominant feature of the village is the Roman Catholic Church of the Transfiguration of the Lord from 1254, which is entered by a covered staircase. And let me tell you, climbing 162 steps will take your breath away.
The story goes that when the Hungarian king St. Stephen learned that somewhere in the mountains there was a valley in which there were many coloured stones, he sent his commander, who was from Spain, to find such a valley. When the commander and his party turned from the Hron river into the deep valley his horse stumbled over a rock and rolled out a large chunk of ore. He marked the spot, and the very next day the king sent miners from all over the empire after the Spaniard. Thus the name Špania Dolina (Spaniard's Valley) was born.
