What a treat to have a visit with a favorite guest this morning. We chatted about favorite places to visit and things to do in Greece and I was reminded of a stay on the island of Paros that inspired me to paint our benches this beautiful deep blue. That was about 15 years ago. Do you think they’re worn in? Or worn out? I’m having a hard time deciding! Thank you for the gorgeous flowers Lindsay Gibson of Majestic Yoga Studio and safe travels. They are brightening this already gorgeous day!

Sometimes we come back to the Barn after guests leave to find the slightest clues about a stay. A beautiful family with a darling little one left this morning. We suspect he made himself comfortable in the pillows around the banquette. They are a mixture of Anthropology prototypes from our time in Philly, IKEA and Scott’s mom’s handiwork from years ago. We love adding one of a kind items to the Barn so that it feels unique to our visitors. Safe travels beautiful family. We hope to see you again soon.

Such a fun night at Stowe Cider for their open-mic on Thursday. All kinds of talent showing up there! If you’re in town and you perform you should go! Here’s Aidan Snyder covering Everlong. So bittersweet given the news today. Our hearts are heavy for the Foos and everyone who loves them as we do.

Apple picking is one of our favorite fall activities, running just behind eating apple pie and cider donuts. We ❤️heading to for the scenic drive to Cabot and the friendly welcome. There is still fruit ripening on the trees, so a second trip is definitely in order!

Late summer hike to Sterling Pond. The trail from the visitors center in the Notch is a little over a mile up and joins the Long Trail at the Pond. We loved seeing lots of thru hikers, both North and Southbound. Thankful for beautiful weather for the foliage season hikes ahead.

We just ❤️ this new mural at Laughing Moon Chocolates. It feels like a gift to the whole town and all of our visitors. One more reason to visit as if the exceptional chocolates with extra special local ingredients wasn’t enough!

You know those things you’ve put off because you would really rather not (even though you must)? We never wanted to put a railing on the timber staircase at the Barn. We knew we needed to, but just couldn’t picture it. Turns out we just needed Brad at Iron Art Custom Metalworks. We love how it turned out and that it will help keep our guests safe.

Yeah, so this was supposed to be a glistening, freshly poured Edward for the photo to entice you all. But it’s been a long time and I got a little ahead of myself. Ah Edward, it’s been too long. If you happen to spend time at the Barn, ask us about the names of the beers. It’s Sean Hill’s story that Heather, granddaughter of a Vermont dairy farmer, can relate to on a personal level. This one was poured at where you should have one too if you can. Cheers!

Scott has been working on preparing space in the garden for our guests. It seems to be a spot for coffee and contemplations in the mornings these days. We’re thankful for cool nights and mornings during the recent warm spell. Eagerly anticipating the July 4th and balloon festival celebrations coming up!

Gram’s trusty travel alarm, circa 1960. It’s stashed in her desk at The Barn at Bourne House in case you’d like to go old school the next time your wanderings bring you this way. Looking at this mid-century gem makes me itch to pack a bag and get on a plane. I suppose a lot of us are feeling that itch as exploring seems to be a grand idea again. Where are you headed?

If we could time-lapse this view to a week from now we would! The green is about to burst and we can’t wait. When we made Bourne House our home 16 years ago, everyone told us we’d love it in the summer. We couldn’t imagine anything better than the glorious winters here. The house didn’t have screens in the windows after all! We had no idea the spring, summer and fall would all be just as glorious! Stay tuned for more greenery. We’re looking forward to sharing it all with you!

And it was all yellow... The yellow in Coldplay’s Yellow is said to be inspired by a phone book. (Remember those?) This morning I’m feeling the yellow in the incredibly yellow eggs 🥚 🍳 from my colleague, RD’s chickens. With a little olive oil, fresh herbs, pinto beans, onions and peppers, these silky smooth, super fresh eggs fortified my morning of tidying up the gardens at the Barn. The very freshest eggs, with yellow/orange yolks full of nutrients from nature, are always within easy reach here in Stowe. We’ll hook you up with or when you’re here so you can savor these golden delights and others while humming your favorite lyric. And if you’re still reading all this tiny print, how about you drop your favorite Coldplay lyric in the comments to extend the “ear worm” I’ve got going?
