Mushroom hunting, whether for culinary delight or photography, is a popular new past time in the area. We spied these beauties in the woods nearby. If you are interested in a foraging class, our friend Sam Rogers can get you started. His grasp and enthusiasm for fungi is impressive!

What a treat to have a visit with a favorite guest this morning. We chatted about favorite places to visit and things to do in Greece and I was reminded of a stay on the island of Paros that inspired me to paint our benches this beautiful deep blue. That was about 15 years ago. Do you think they’re worn in? Or worn out? I’m having a hard time deciding! Thank you for the gorgeous flowers Lindsay Gibson of Majestic Yoga Studio and safe travels. They are brightening this already gorgeous day!

Sometimes we come back to the Barn after guests leave to find the slightest clues about a stay. A beautiful family with a darling little one left this morning. We suspect he made himself comfortable in the pillows around the banquette. They are a mixture of Anthropology prototypes from our time in Philly, IKEA and Scott’s mom’s handiwork from years ago. We love adding one of a kind items to the Barn so that it feels unique to our visitors. Safe travels beautiful family. We hope to see you again soon.

Perfect. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The salmon special with sweet potato purée, snap peas and crispy mushrooms was ! The IPA from was pretty sweet too! We love recommending to our guests at the Barn.

Apple picking is one of our favorite fall activities, running just behind eating apple pie and cider donuts. We ❤️heading to for the scenic drive to Cabot and the friendly welcome. There is still fruit ripening on the trees, so a second trip is definitely in order!

Late summer hike to Sterling Pond. The trail from the visitors center in the Notch is a little over a mile up and joins the Long Trail at the Pond. We loved seeing lots of thru hikers, both North and Southbound. Thankful for beautiful weather for the foliage season hikes ahead.

Breathe in, breathe out, repeat. We are so thankful for the sunshine on the Worcester Mountains, the gentle breeze on the rain chain and the calming sounds of creatures celebrating the arrival of warmer weather. Hoping you’re finding joys in spring renewal too.

Spring Garden at the Barn Meadow

Spring Columbine, Lupine and Daisies are here! The columbine have moved along with us by seed from our last few homes over many years. The original plant was dug up from the garden of an old friend who lives in Colorado now. We’re happy to pass along a bag of seeds to our guests when they ask us. It’s a perfect memory to take along with you.

Taking care of business ~ annual inspection and cleaning of the fireplace today means taking The Barn at Bourne House out of service for a day. We’ll welcome a couple tomorrow for a surprise birthday weekend. #safetyfirst
