Did you know? The Orkney Isles, located off the northern coast of Scotland, are rich in history, natural beauty, and unique wildlife:

The Orkney Isles feature well-preserved Neolithic sites, including Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar, and Maeshowe, which are part of the Heart of Neolithic Orkney UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Scapa Flow in Orkney, a significant naval base during both World Wars, is now a renowned wreck diving site with German warships scuttled in 1919.

The Orkney Isles are a wildlife haven, home to diverse bird species, seals, dolphins, and occasionally orcas.

There's way more to Scotland than bagpipes, whisky, and hairy cows. Although we do enjoy those as well!

Caprera Island

Pics of Day 4! We took the ferry from Palau to Maddalena Island, then the local bus to Isola Caprera, the “wild island”. Favorite hike of the trip so far!

We started with a visit to the Garibaldi Caprera Museum then hiked along the coast past secluded beaches with turquoise waters, picnic lunch (local parmesan, provolone, prosciutto, bread, fruits, local tomatoes, etc...), hiked back to the starting point – spotted some “Caprera goats”, bus back to Maddalena, ferry back to Palau.

We had a free night for dinner but the group ate together because we wanted to stick together!

Accommodation Spotlight: The Lovat Hotel, Fort Augustus, Scotland

The Lovat's history dates back to 1869, when it first offered hearty hospitality to weary travelers as a station hotel. Today, it stands as a husband and wife-run establishment, supported by a team that feels more like family.

Green Initiatives:
From early on, The Lovat has been at the forefront of sustainability efforts. In 2006, they installed a biomass wood chip boiler, and with every hotel booking, they donate 15p to the conservation charity Trees for Life—a popular initiative focused on tree planting. More recently, in alignment with the growing emphasis on reducing food miles and supporting local businesses, The Lovat partners exclusively with like-minded businesses. Much of the food served is sourced from their kitchen garden or foraged from local hedgerows and woodlands.
