HURRICANE MILTON ADVISORY #2 | Monday, Oct. 7, 2024 | 4 p.m.
The City of Stuart continues to monitor Hurricane Milton and participate in State, Weather and regional calls with area partners. As additional briefings occur, the city will continue to update storm related information.
CURRENT SITUATION
Hurricane Milton is now a category 5 storm. This is a major hurricane bringing an increasing risk of life-threatening storm surge and damaging winds for portions of Floridaโs west coast beginning Tuesday night or early Wednesday. Storm Surge and Hurricane Watches are now in effect for portions of the west coast of the Florida Peninsula and residents in that area should follow any advice given by local officials and evacuate if told to do so. Additional warnings could be posted along the Treasure Coast by tomorrow.
LOCAL IMPACTS
Miltonโs current track is set to travel directly over east central Florida. Martin County could expect a 45-55% change (and increasing) of Tropical Storm Force Winds arriving Wednesday afternoon and into Wednesday evening, October 9, 2024. Hurricane force winds are slowly increasing for individual locations (5-10%) throughout the Treasure Coast. The best chances for sustained hurricane force winds will be at locations in vicinity of the center track, and near the coast as Milton moves offshore.
There is a marginal to slight risk of excessive rainfall in slow-moving showers and lighting storms today through Tuesday, October 8, 2024. In Martin County, the forecast is for 4-6โ of total rainfall from Sunday, October 6, 2024, through Thursday, October 10, 2024. A Flood Watch was issued for Martin County and remains in effect through Thursday, October 10, 2024.
In addition to strong to damaging wind gusts, a few tornadoes embedded in rain bands are possible, mainly on Wednesday afternoon and Wednesday night as Milton approaches east central Florida.

Storm drains have been cleared of debris by City of Stuart Public Works.

Sail shades over the Riverwalk Stage are being dismantled.

The โmake you ownโ sandbag station at Sailfish Ball Park has been discontinued due to depletion of supplies. The posted hours of Martin Countyโs sandbag station at Halpatiokee Regional Park, 8303 SW Lost Road, is until 5 p.m. today, Monday, Oct. 7.

Shutters are being deployed/installed on various city buildings.

Yard debris is being collected and a final collection will occur Wednesday morning.

Martin County School District has announced all after-school activities, including clubs, sports, and tutoring, are canceled for Tuesday, October 8. Extended Day services will operate as normal on Tuesday. All District-operated schools will close Wednesday and Thursday, as some may be used as emergency shelters.
