The Old Sturbridge Village Museum Collection contains an assortment of mittens, including this unique, miniature mitten, that measures only 1 ½ inches long. 🧶According to the donor, this mitten was sent by Admah Edgecombe of Bethel, ME to her fiancé, Charles Poole of Woburn, MA to break off their engagement. Despite this, they later married in 1857 and had three children. Whether or not this story is true, the mitten demonstrates incredible knitting technique, especially in the thumb gusset construction.

During Christmas by Candlelight, guests can see a spectacular miniature nativity featuring more than 600 individual pieces. This nativity scene uniquely combines an Italianate motif and early 19th-century New England themes. The buildings were built with Styrofoam and building insulation foam by Tom Hopkins, a former OSV staff member and present-day volunteer. The figurines were made by Fontanini, a company in Italy. Setting up the large display can take up to 12 hours! www.osv.org/christmas
