Well, it's certainly been a bit since we've posted out here. It's been a busy summer, which I'm sure is the same for everyone! During that time, however, we were able to complete one of the cottage upgrades we had on our list - a proper kayak rack so that you won't have to leave the kayaks on the ground, and they're now closer to the water! Hope you're all enjoying the summer!

The Door County stone wood-burning fireplace at Rocky Shores Retreat is available from October to April. But did you know that we now provide firewood for the winter? Some of the local firewood stands close up for the winter and we wanted to ensure that our guests could enjoy a warm fire without hunting around for firewood.

Ice fishing is in full swing in Door County. It's neat to see the abundance of access points to the water right in front of the cottage. We've had guests walk right out with their sleds, or drive a couple of minutes to one of several access roads.
I caught a glimpse of a unique "ice fishing train" coming back in at the end of the day. Great idea!
It’s been a great ice fishing season so far in Door County. The roads and access points were packed with fisherman this past weekend. There are still a few more good weeks left - we’ve got one opening at the end of Feb and some in early March as well. A visit to https://www.rockyshoresretreat.com/ gets you started.
Winter and snow are finally setting in at the cottage. Door County is set to get 5-8” today we cleared about 6” before we left today. A beautiful time to be up here! There’s not much in the way of ice yet, but with the cold temps setting in this week, ice and ice fishing should not be too far off.

The last thing you want to do when you get to a new place for a relaxing vacation is to hunt around the house for the necessities...like fun and games!

Vacations in Door County aren't all fun and games, but they mostly are. Sometimes they're about sightseeing, and you'll need binoculars for that. After the hammock, this is hands down the second-best vacation reading spot in the cottage. Once the weather turns cooler in fall, it will likely become the best reading spot in the cottage!
We still have a September week open (21 - 26) and an October week open (25 - 31) where this will be the best reading nook in the house. https://www.rockyshoresretreat.com/availability
We have a couple of upgrades that we just wrapped up while we had a day between guests. The fire pit got it's stone surround and the bunk house now has its own heating and cooling system! The view from the fire pit area at the end of the day makes it all worth it!
Fall is one of the best times to spend time in Door County! Fall Fest in Sister Bay, beautiful colors, and wonderful weather! You can follow along with the color tracker on Door County's own tourism site - https://www.doorcounty.com/fall/, but in general, the second week of October is the peak weekend.
Rocky Shores still has the weekend of the 15th of October open for booking. We should be at or near peak color - a great time to escape to Door County! Enjoy the drive up the bay or lake toward Sister Bay and retreat back to the cottage in the evening.
